The image above was made with stable diffusion using the prompt 'Cartoon crescent moon on a stormy night.'
An old friend recently told me about Moondong, a memecoin on Solana that came out a few days ago. My friend did the art, which is utterly ridiculous. It mostly involves a cartoon crescent moon with a prominent penis. Somehow, around this phallic homage to adolescence, a community is forming. And it's growing fast.
In the telegram, hundreds of stakeholders trade memes of this moon character interacting Gary Gensler in an offensive way. The chart, with a market cap bouncing around just $100k as I write, was exactly the kind of chart I like to trade on. Extreme volatility, wicked risk, and more upside potential than I'd seen in a long time. So I couldn't resist buying some Moondong, at which point the price immediately dropped.
This always seems to happen and I'm not too worried about it. I understand the risks of small cap memecoins and I'm moderately confident that this project will have more staying power than its many competitors in the space. There are real people working hard to make Moondong great, with a human artist at the center of everything, claiming space in a field increasingly dominated by AI art.
The distribution of tokens looks pretty equitable. And there are little live events happening constantly, making everything seem exciting. People are getting involved and contributing to bootstrapped marketing. So even if I'm underwater today, there will probably still be interest in Moondong tomorrow.
Please note that nothing I say should be considered advice. Crypto involves complex risks that you should fully understand before trading. That said, if you want to get into Moondong, you'll want a Phantom wallet and some sol to buy with. I've been trading here. Note that you can also swap Sol for Moondong from within the Phantom wallet. Be sure to double check that the contract address is DthcPtviaaVasr6GTjRLoRcJSysSqGsZR61LArghpump
.
One thing I worry about is the embarrassment factor. Some people may not want to publicly support the lewd character, even if they privately find him hilarious. I'm not posting links on facebook for that reason, though I'm comfortable sharing Moondong here on Hive. Hive doesn't judge.
It's been a long time since I've seen a community this excited about any new crypto project. And this is only day 5. The marketing plan is barely beginning to roll out. I wouldn't be surprised to see a 10x community size in a month.
Since the New Year, I've been looking for a promising project with high upside potential no matter the risk. Moondong is the project I found. It's stupid and obnoxious, but I'm not above a little crass humor. And an old friend draws the dicks, so supporting the project is supporting his art.
