How to Buy a Car with STEEM, Bitcoin, or any Crypto!

in #cryptocurrency6 years ago (edited)

You can make a large purchase like a car or a house with crypto, I did this week! But you must have a strategy! I bought a Jeep Cherokee from a dealership even though most of my earnings are in crypto!

A large portion of my freelance writer earnings are paid in the form of cryptocurrency. My truck was stolen a while ago so I finally was in a financial position to buy a new one this month. I did my research and decided on a Jeep, which is one of my favorite vehicles. Tough, safe, and comfortable, you can't go wrong with Jeep.

I have zero credit. Nada. Zilch. My Grandpa taught me to never spend beyond my means, and to never get a credit card except for absolute emergencies. He was a millionaire so I listened to him and never applied for credit.

This month I learned that you cannot do much without a high credit score. My lack of credit is almost the same as bad credit, and nobody wants to take a chance on people like me.

I have lived in the same place for awhile, earned good money with a flawless job history- even though I am freelance and work at home my bank statements show consistent income for years and ability to make payments. I also asked a few editors and clients to write letters of recommendation. So, armed with this beautiful array of proof of hard working'ness and loyalty and on-time bill payment, I went shopping.

The first dealership loved my bank statements and letters and residency. This overruled my 0 credit score. They brought my Jeep of choice halfway across the state of Washington for me, and asked me to bring my license, proof of insurance, and paycheck stubs or W-2's and we would sign the deal and get me in my new vehicle that afternoon. I reminded Bill the Salesman that I was freelance and did not possess these things. He asked me how I could provide proof of payment. I told him I thought my bank statements were enough as he had said. He said his manager needed more, like where the money came from. I explained some clients paid me via PayPal, some via Direct Bank Transfer, but most were crypto so I used Bittrex to trade SBD for BTC and then Coinbase to convert BTC to USD and transfer to my bank. I said I could provide screenshots of all transactions. He said not to come yet, he had to tell his manager this and see if it was enough.

He didn't call me back for hours, nor return my calls as he had been every other time. I sweet-talked another salesman into giving me Bill's cell # and when he answered I said who I was and before I could get another word out he freaked out on me, telling me that bitcoin is a scam, it's not real, and his fine dealership would never associate with such a sham as cryptocurrency. I tried reasoning with him, arguing with him... nothing worked- they absolutely would not sell me a car even though I had proof I could pay each month and made ten times more than the payment!

Basically, as soon as they heard the word "Bitcoin" they flipped their lids and I suddenly was shady... I was a great potential customer up until that point...

I learned my lesson really quick. The next Jeep/Chrysler dealership: I did the same things, but never mentioned bitcoin, STEEM, or cryptocurrency in general. I showed them all the same things, they even saw Coinbase on my bank statements- I simply said it is a way clients can pay freelancers. They looked at a lot of my writing work online, saw I was hardworking and consistent, noticed the fact I can keep up with my payments, and I went home with my Jeep that evening.

How do you buy a car with crypto?

By never mentioning crypto.

It's sad we have to omit this information. I am proud that I can pay bills with crypto!

I bought my car with crypto! I want a bumper sticker that says so! I want to tell the world!!!

Unfortunately, most people are not crypto friendly, and most still think it's fake or a scam. If you earn a decent part of your income in crypto you have to get creative and figure out how not to tell "them" this so that you can make your purchaseand enjoy your life ;)

What difficulties have you had with crypto and purchases? Please share in the comments!

Happy earnings my beautiful crypto friends!

Thank you for your support, I love you guys ♡

That's excellent. Jeeps are nice but I'm more of a car fan... cause I hate height.

The advice I was given yesterday (I'm trying to get a loan to pay legal fees but got shot down) was to make consistent payments into the bank account. Also to keep a float of money in the account to show there's a safety (which I don't have). It allows them to see there's very little risk for people in our line of work. This was from the Bank loaner... he says freelance people have it hard because there's less records.

When you cash out, do you send it right to the bank account?

I am a very small female, I feel so much safer in larger vehicles... I truly am uncomfortable in small cars, lol

Good advice from your bank. Yes, I send it right to my bank

I

crypto is one of the biggest opportunities since the invention of the internet itseif....great times to be around..............................

I'm jealous. Coinbase doesn't allow for Canada, And I lose about 40 bucks going through bitcoins ATM.

Technology needs to catch up to me.

Wow, $40? That is crazy

Sorry for the theft of your car. I can only imagine the stress those myopic dealers made you feel before you got the trick. However, it is ironical that the way to buy a car with crypto is never to mention crypto. Lol.

I see a future where these crypto barriers will be eliminated and that future is here.

We are there! We are stepping over those barriers right now :)

I agree absolutely. The revolution is now upon us.

@arbitrarykitten mam...
Digital money can make us rich to deal with ourselves. I genuinely trust that. Be that as it may, what I additionally accept is that it will influence us to sufficiently fit to serve the penniless also.

It is absolutely difficult for all to give. Every one is battling in their own specific manners. In any case, that is the magnificence of life is it not? One who has seen the intense time will identify towards the one enduring. Such a one when independent can promptly consider helping other people. When I put in endeavors to gain, I should put in little endeavors along to share.

One might be poor out of absence of education, another might be expected life's weight of overwhelming obligations, another might be out of sheer apathy and some might be not able meet the sudden needs of life. In any case, the truth of the matter is same. They all need assistance. From numerous points of view it can be tended to....

And the power of the Steemit blockchain will allow this :)

Crypto/BTC is a great way.The earliest way to get rich and not just make money with crypyo is to buy BTC and hold for year or two..........

A happy ending was the most important, but it is strange that some places still dont see cryptos as "money". Congrats on your new cryptojeep :)

Yes!!! My cryptojeep ;) I love it!

Thank you :)

Now you need to find a CryptoJeep sticker and put it on ;)

YES! I will find one of those mall kiosks and have one made- with Steemit on it too ;)

oh then please post a picture when you do :)

Most definitely!

Where there is a will there is a way, even if that means keeping our mouths shut to keep the non believers happy in their world. Congratulations on your new ride A K.

As crypto is growing and becoming more accepted, they'll see ;)

Thanks!!

@arbitrarykitten I am PROUD of what you did and I must say I am looking forward to the day when ALL BANKS become History. By the Way if you get a chance checkout @erikaharris and her latest Arbitrary Kitten..........

Thank you so much <3 I worked very hard for it, and I am super proud of CryptoJeep :) She is amazing and as soon as I get some stickers I am going to post some photos of her :)

I want to tell everyone I bought her with Crypto! The more they see, the comfier they will get ;)

@arbitrarykitten I just corrected the link. It is @erikaharris

Thank you! You always introduce me to the best peeps :)

Is that her correct name? It says that page doesn't exist...

How do you buy a car with crypto?
By never mentioning crypto.

Tried to introduce someone to steemit last week, once I mentioned the word crypto, she just flipped, didn't let me get two words out. Most people are so scared of change, they end up missing out on so many opportunities.

Congrats on your new ride!

When I show people that crypto pays my bills, that's when they actually see :)

Hey, it sure take a certain type of person for this: you must have drive and perseverance, you must be creative and think outside the box, and you must be a rebel.

It's not for everyone...

;)

It takes a certain kind of conviction to come in terms with virtual money

Rebel haha, you got that right.

it's my hope that within the next 6 months or so, we're going to see such a boom in Cryptocurrencies that transactions- direct peer to peer- will be much more available. Hell, I think that someone smart would start up a global classifieds listing where all purchases are direct peer to peer exchanges in crypts- whether its a truck and house or a basket of eggs!!!

d

We have a Steemit Store for such things! Selling your used items for crypto!

oh cool- I heard there was something like that- I'll have to go look!! thanx!
d

That's awesome. It's sad that that salesman was willing to deny you a sale. He basically denied himself. Oh well. His loss lol. Yet at least you learned and we're able to fix it on the next try. The reality of being able to live off of cryptocurrencies has yet to sink in for me. So lovely that does not stop me from continuing to invest in them. That is awesome I love this post.

I have only been here at Steemit for seven and a half months. I found Steemit while researching cryptocurrency, and had yet to dive in. Look at me now! There is another Steemian who purchased a car with STEEM, however I think he invested. I am a single mother and do not have money to invest- all I have earned I made here and invested that. It can be done! I am growing completely organically. You will too! Just persevere and keep STEEMing ever onward and upward!

This was some valuable information you shared! It’s sucks that so many people think it’s a scam instead of researching for themselves and looking into what it’s really all about. Crypto currency has paid some of our bills as well and we have been able to purchase things we wouldn’t have been able to just with our regular income. It’s really amazing where crypto is going and how much we are able to do with it now. Sorry about the theft of your car but congratulations on your new Jeep :)

Crypto is here to stay, and will only grow :)

Thank you so much!

I couldn’t agree more!! 😊

Wow the inspire post, I want go to Mecca by crypto, hope My dream Come true like your dream @arbitrarykitten.. resteem

Yes! You will, keep STEEMing onward and upward and you most definitely will my friend :)

Amiinn.. Thank you for support My dear friend, Greeting from Aceh Sumatra, Indonesia :)

Greetings my friend

@arbitrarykitten, I can't believe the sales rep lost it with you! You should be proud of the fact that you're thriving in the new economy. People fear what they don't know.

I am super proud! I am getting a sticker to put on CryptoJeep to show everyone I got her with crypto ;)

Avoiding debt is very good advice. It's very tempting for people to get into debt just because they want something that they don't necessarily need, unfortunately that temptation is what will keep them poor for the rest of their lives.

What really sucks is to get a good credit score you must go into a little debt! And you cannot do much without a good credit score :(

This is funny. I have done a lot of work with Hip Hop and youth mentorship and I found the same thing there... You can do youth work with Hip Hop, but never use the word Hip Hop. Just say culture, music, dance and art. Good article. Thank you!

Oh that is funny! You can't use the word Hip Hop? Why is that?

It seems to carry the same negative connotation as Bitcoin. Organizations that do youth work love to fund programs that get youth involved in art, culture and music... but if you say Hip Hop... it is a no go.

The stone that the builder refuses.

liquidation can be an issue :/

But past proof should be sufficient ;)

Amazing. Congratulations to you. I will listen to your suggestions. Thank you for sharing. I think I always make an investment to the wrong altcoin. Resteemed

Thank you.

I think with any altcoin or coin in general, you have to be in it for the long haul...

Thank you for your suggestion, but I have no much money. I am trying to gain fastly and always lost.

Wow inspirational post. Glad to read that your dreams comes to reality by utilizing crypto currency. Keep sharing

I'm so happy to be inspirational :) thank you

Crypto will not go down without a fight
We will win this fight against oppression
I'd like to.buy my cae someday with crypto

Yes!

It's getting more widely accepted, however the biggest things will take the longest, naturally.

You will get your car! Keep on Steeming!

This nice post i like your story thanks for sharing..

I'm glad you enjoyed it :)

enjoy your newly bought jeep @arbitrarykitten.

Thank you so much hon! I've worked so hard and so long, I am making sure I enjoy it :)

Wow, what a jerk he was. So glad you were still able to get your vehicle. I'm still nervous about the trade stuff, but more on the side of me screwing up and losing anything or getting screwed over.

If you need any help, I'd be happy to walk you thru :)

Thanks, may take you up on that. :-)

Thanks for the tip @arbitrarykitten.

You are very welcome! I'm happy to be helpful!

it was great. I also really like it. even I currently do not care anymore with other jobs because steemit has given me a decent life. hopefully I can also buy like you in the future

Steemit is definitely changing lives! I have faith it will help us all achieve our goals :)

This is pretty nice. It is truly the era of crypto as alot can bw gotten with it @arbitrarykitten

Absolutely!

I feel in love with Steemit ;) I give her a lot, and she treats me good because of it :)

I'm sorry but your blog's title is misleading... If I understand correctly, you bought your Jeep with USD proceeds from your crypto but not paying for it using crypto. I saw your blog title and thought you had a way to pay for things as big as house or car using your crypto directly. I do know the world is still viewing cryptocurrency still a shady part of the economy, so I got excited seeing your blog's title thinking of the other way. Thanks by the way.

Well, technically I would not have the USD proceeds if I didn't have the crypto first ;)

The world is slowly catching up, but it seems to be moving faster, good for us all :)

I'm happy that Crypto has been a good source for you to buy your needs. I did buy myself something last week with the crytpo converted into cash.

Explaining where we get the money is quite hard and hearing such a term can make the go running the other way.

Nonetheless, its their fault not yours. I'm happy for you and wish you the best. :)

Thank you so much!

awesommeeeeee

You could definitely go wrong with a jeep 😂

Wow, what an interesting story! I would have imagined your bank statements would have dazzled them enough that they wouldn't care where the money came from. Thanks for providing such a good lesson for us to learn, lest we fall into the same trap! CONGRATULATIONS on your vehicle! Sweet! 😊

Congratulations! Yeah, you should have a bumper sticker made!

I've also learned my lesson to not tell anyone about the crypto world because majority of the people around me think it's a scam. They'll see.

Yes. Yes they will :)

Crypto will change the world!

Wow! You're the first that I found that managed to buy a car with cryptos. Impressive! I wish I can do that in my country but what you did, giving me ideas on how to do it, there's possibility and hope for me. Yup, first rule now is never mention crypto! Thank you for that! :D

Soon my friend! It's only growing :) Your hard work will pay off!

Thanks for sharing.
I started Dez. 2017 with Crypto, so I bought nothing with my cryptocurrencies yet. But the time will come...

Welcome! Perseverance, patience, and consistency. And original content. Those are the keys :)

dang i was hoping to do this when I had enough crypto.

It's going to be really hard to figure this out when I have the time. I made some poor choices as a college student :( but ill get myself back on track. haha.

This was seriously a great post to read wow. Thanks for making my morning.

Oh good- yes, you can fix it, it takes a little time but the best thing to do is a free consult with a financial advisor will get you on the right track to making your finances pretty :)

so GLAD you are onto another phase of your life. aint it crazy that we can't use crypto like it's a legit income stream. why does the system consider it to be so shady, just becaus of bitcoin criminals? stupid. glad you got sorted with a new ride, that's awesome news.

People are always scared of things they don't understand...

I can't wait for the day when businesses decline fiat and only accept crypto!! Thanks for sharing your story☺

YES!

Thanks for reading :)

Did you drive it straight over to that other dealership and honk and wave at them? lol!

But of course ;)

At least you tried, the very sad fact is once you exchange to fiat they all happy since then the taxes are paid and they have your 'money' a lot of education still needed in the world of crypto.

And it's up to us to be proud representatives and educate the confused public!

@arbitrarykitten This is interesting info, thank you <3 .... Crypto is getting more useful and people who are not in on it should start considering diving in. Thank you for everything you do on Steemit. You're always appreciated.

I convinced a different dealer at the first dealership to try crypto ;) shhhh!

Thank you so much :)

It is funny to me that they see the money being deposited in your bank account - but it is still fake...
So much of "if I don't understand it - it must be bad" thinking!!
So glad you got your car and so sad that your other one got stolen!!
I was in the same situation - that I paid my bills and didn't use credit and it was held against me LOL

Right? Being responsible and living within your means is held against you? This is a sad time we live in...

Thank you so much hun <3

Cool. Cool. Cool!
Love this and congrats on your new car!
You are totally right about not mentioning Bitcoin, because we just had our first ever car sale paid with Bitcoin in our country and it has some red flags (buyer is a omnia rep, car was bought at a low day at its lowest point, it was used to promote a Bitcoin event to sell mining packages). You can imagine that these event don't really help the legitimacy of crypto.

Oh my, yeah, that does not help BTC, or any crypto's reputation...

Definitely not :(
But there are luckily positive stories as well, like yours :)

Congratulations! This post has been chosen as one of the daily Whistle Stops for The STEEM Engine!

You can see your post's place along the track here: The Daily Whistle Stops, Issue # 31 (1/31/18)

The STEEM Engine is an initiative dedicated to promoting meaningful engagement across Steemit. Find out more about us and join us today!

Glad you managed to get the new car in the end.

A good lesson to learn...

The first rule of CrytoClub - Don't mention the Crypto...

Being self employed most of my life taught me one important lesson in this regard - if you can't buy cash, don't buy it - loans are the shackles of enslavement!

Lot of love and I hope you can cast those shackles off double quick!

Right! And that is how I have always lived!

And btw, I sold my Laredo - it was way too thirsty, as lovely it was to have!

Wow that's interesting. Yes, when I tell people, particularly my blogging friends that they can come over here and earn money on Steemit they always ask, "is this real money?"

When I say "yes" and then explain how to convert it to fiat (Bittrex to bitcoin to Uphold to fiat), their eyes glaze over haha

But that's interesting to me, because it shows how early we are in this new economy. If it takes that many steps to convert crypto to fiat, and pay bills (or buy a car) or what have you, and it's ALREADY profitable and working, then imagine what this new economy could be when all the roadblocks are removed? Once bitcoin is easily transferable to any bank, and crypto exchanges are just a part of life for everyone, imagine how much capital will be flowing through these markets?

I'm excited about giving the profits back to the creators of content. The internet age has brought about a world in which writers or content creators have to produce for free, and try to monetize in other ways (indirectly selling books or getting YouTube ad revenue), but now I can see a new age on the horizon in places like Steemit and Brave (basic attention token) where people are paid directly for good content.

I'm just learning about all this but it's very exciting!

I met with a head of the digital nomad group in Paris a few weeks ago, and we decided to do a joint blog article about ways to travel full time and earn a living. I said I'd like to write something on crypto and the possibilities of the space for digital nomads.

Maybe you can contribute too!

Your bumpersticker or license plate frame should simply read:

This Jeep runs on Steem!
