Ethereum ICO with screenshots! (July/August 2015) - OUCH!

in #cryptocurrency7 years ago (edited)

Hey everyone,

I decided to write this post after coming across some photos in my old iPhone. Those who have been in crypto since 2015 will surely remember this. I'll get to those below but first I wanted to share a bit of my story.
So I first heard about crypto back in 2015 (BTC market cap at the time was roughly $3 billion USD). A lot more volatile at the time and back then all I was hearing about was people losing money in crypto. Quite the opposite of what we’re seeing now.

Aside from Bitcoin, I had started looking into and buying Ripple on their own platform called RippleTrade - close to $0.01 each at the time (back when jed McCaleb was still behind the project). Many of you probably don't know this, but when Ripple first launched, they were trying to find a way to distributed the tokens to as many individuals as possible. They joined an IBM platform called "Computing for good" where individuals can donate their computing power for scientific research. Ripple created a "Team" on the platform and users would link their computers/miners to that team. They gave away 500,000 Ripple per day to those contributors on a pro rata basis of computing power. This lasted for almost 2 months until they realized it wasn't the optimal solution. I was one of the first 100 people to join and capitalized on this – my entry into crypto.

If I remember correctly, I had made a few thousand $ at the time - out of thin air. I was a student back then so this was big for me. It was July 2015 and had heard about this ICO (wasn’t called that at the time) – not much information on it back then but today it sits at #2 on Coinmarketcap – Ethereum. This brings me to the screenshots :

I remember having my $ ready, sitting at my computer, and deciding whether or not I should pull the trigger. Based on my limited knowledge of the project/tech I decided to back out! BTC at the time ranged from $200 to $300 USD, so 1 ETH would have cost approx. $0.125 USD!

We always think back to the moves we could have made, but the next big thing is where our focus should be.

Would love to hear about your crypto experiences! please comment below!
