Credit cards behemoth Mastercard is keeping its option open when it comes to cryptocurrency. Appparently it is ready to work with fully regulated, central bank issued, non anonymous cryptocurrencies. This type of crypto by definition does not exist as of now. Even if there comes one it wont be a cryptocurrency as they have to be decentralised to be one.
Ari Sarker, co-president of Mastercard’s Asia-Pacific business, told the Financial Times.
“If governments look to create national digital currency we’d be very happy to look at those in a more favourable way. So long as it’s backed by a regulator and the value . . . it is not anonymous, it is meeting all the regulatory requirements, I think that would be of greater interest for us to explore.”
The recent surge in popularity of Bitcoin and the idea of decentralization has caused cryptocurrencies both old and new to reach all time high. The very idea of a centralized cryptocurrency mean its just digital fiat with the value being manipulated by governments.
Will we ever see a centralized crypto supported by Mastercard ? Or better yet will they launch their own? All these remains yet to be seen.
I'm really agreed with you and wanna to get Master or Visa Card which supported by centralized crypto. Thanks :)
Thanks mate, but i really dont want a centralized crypto supported by Mastercard or anyother. I mean whats the use of having that.
