I see this as a positive thing and I am really excited about it.
If it will be this year or the next I do not know. But in my opinion if a coin like eth overtakes even for few days btc (or more) it can act like a wake up call for the dev team from btc to improve the nethwork.
The lighting network arrived a bit late....when in November and December we had a huge influx of miners/users or even youtube crypto blogger/vloggers.
Even on Hashflare ...for the month of dec. they recorded 1mil users.
The beg. of jan. came....the hype goes down and btc starts to stabilize ...and people create FUD.
We need more stable and competitive platforms...and ether can deliver...and on the other had...btc is like the terminator 1...as soon as you think that you pressed it with a 10 ton press (first movie) he comes back stronger than before.
As.. for the people who create fud...I see them like water...they create waves...and then the sea calms.
Good post @louisthomas Thank you for sharing, I am Cynetyc (On youtube same) and I subscribed for more (both steemit and Youtube)

Thank you for leaving such a detailed comment!

Thanks you very much @cynetyc

don't think it would happen. Too many traders will keep bitcoin #1.

Hey, @louisthomas thanks for this interesting video! It is a difficult one and I guess only time will tell. If you'd ask me, bitcoin still has a lot going for it to keep its throne and title as the king of crypto. Although I don't see the flippening happen, I still agree with the upsides, but also the short term chaos this could bring. Also, I like the fact, that you cited some valuable comments from your followers. 👍

Speaking of flippening, have you heard about the flappening? 😆
If you haven't, please take a moment to check out Charlie Lees Tweet.

Cheers - @sblue

Might have to make a video about the flappening soon 😄

I'm looking forward to it! 👍😄

The flippening (ETH>BTC) will never happen. But the flappening (LTC>BCH) will happen this year. 🐔🚀 https://t.co/vn9XBdZNC3

Argh continuity error! Louis is back in his old digs in front of his brick wall.

Hahaha bringing it back to the brick wall days!

Ah simpler times...the bulls were raging, the green candles were growing, the faux brick wall a constant in our lives...good times!

I don't think Bitcoin will be overthrown either this year or even next decade. Dominance will fall, obviously, but it won't seep into ETH solely but more into coins that are out of the top10. Bitcoin has the first to market advantage not to mention that ETH and BTC have completely different use cases : BTC has store of value as opposed to the traditional forms like gold and stocks and in the future currency whereas ETH is the big Dapp platform that uses smart contracts.
Also think about new projects like NEO, ADA and LISK, for instance that are tapping into that market and are not that far away from ETH in terms of Market Cap.

I can see the flippening happening second half of this year.

Interesting thoughts! I personally prefer Ethereum but I think it's unlikely ether passes bitcoin for the following reasons:

*For the market to move close to the January high's it's likely to be on the back of bitcoin as it will be new money entering the market and Bitcoin is likely to be the first coin of choice.

*Ether has it's own scaling problems that are yet to be tested to the extent we saw with bitcoin's earlier. The implementation of POS is being underestimated in terms of simplicity.

*With the SEC ruling, it's quite likely that a lot of ERC20 tokens are deemed securities which throws the cat amongst the pigeons

My 2c.

Thanks for the video

Thank you for providing your 2c! 😄

I don't know if there will be a flippening. If there is, I hope it has to do with ethereum's ecosystem making for a dynamic marketplace. It feels like the dominoes are set up, but nothing's kicking off the chain reaction.

I also feel ETH will never overtake BTC. Some drastic measures would have to be taken in order for this to happen. ETH would have to improve its network drastically and adopt new tech like side chains and other measures that would allow other Dapps to run on the network without bogging it down.

I am a ETH long holder so I would love to see ETH pop, but, realistically I feel BTC will be on top for the foreseeable future.

Thank you @louisthomas for another good video post. Frankly, I don't think flippening will have a huge effect, but we'll see if I'm wrong.

At the moment we have BTC as the defacto store of value crypto coin and ETH as the ICO enabler coin via the ERC20 token. If a flippening happened because suddenly there were loads of working DAPPS with real use cases driving mass adoption of crypto and blockchain that would be a very positive move. Unfortunately the current scaling issues associated with ETH make this scenario unlikely.IMHO if the flippening happens for speculative reasons or due to the news cycle it will not be such an important event and will have little lasting effect on the crypto ecosystem.

ADA fill flip ETH :P

Thank you so much for his very useful videos

Thanks for the video! Super interesting ideas about the flippening! I think what happened to btc in December with the huge influx of new users and the outrageous fees has woken up the development team and forced them into action. They see ETH nipping at their heels so to speak, along with the unique technology alt-coins offer. They wont give up that top spot easily... but who knows. Its fun to watch and be apart of!
