Ulog # 101: Pasalubong

in #culture6 years ago (edited)

This is my first ever ulog story ^_^

Today marks the 5th day of Ramadan and because of that I went to office a little late than the normal office timings. Before reaching my seat, I saw a blue plastic bag and a shade of white on top of my desk and kept me thinking... did I not finish my work yesterday? Or did I forget something that I should have brought home yesterday? Anyway, so I went straight on my desk and checked it out.

On top of the plastic I saw my name and someone from my behind greeted me "Good morning ma'am! I am back! And those are for you! I hope you like them!" So I turned around and saw my colleague with a big smile, Lynette is finally back from her deserved vacation. I was so happy and thankful that she's back so we had our small chitchat before we started working. While she's telling me all her latest adventures back home, she asked me to open up her pasalubong. So, these are what I've received.

Otap & Danggit
For those who don't know Otap is an oval-shaped puff pastry cookie from the Philippines, especially common in Cebu where it originated. See more about it here.
And Danggit is a type of dried fish which can be kept for a long time before cooking it. Most of the time it smells bad when you're cooking it but really tastes good especially if you partner it with steam rice and dip it in vinegar with pepper and garlic. Yummy! ^_^

The other plastic has hankies & basket weave! I was literally shocked when I saw those earlier as those types of pasalubongs are really odd as I normally received food and souvenirs only. Out of my curiosity I asked the question, "why did you give me these?" And she happily told me that "I noticed that you always have a handkerchief and you prefer to use it than a tissue and last time I visited your place I saw all those beautiful handcrafted cross stitch designs you've made". I was totally touched when she told me those words as I didn't notice that sometimes you really matter to some people. She gave me not just a material thing but the thought of she's also thinking about me. ^_^

When I reached home I fully opened the plastics and found out that I just got 6 pieces of handkerchiefs and 5 yards of basket weave. Unbelievable! It was really amazing!

After seeing these, I grabbed my phone and called her and thanked her again. And she happily responded saying "You are very much welcome po".

At this point of time I am still thinking some people never changed... even though you are now outside your home country whatever your ancestors instilled in your hearts it will never ever changed.

Thanks for dropping by... Until then!

Thank you for dropping by.
A big hug from the Philippines & United Arab Emirates.

It is a pleasure
Have a nice night

How sweet and thoughtful of her. I am a "hankie" collector and Armando Caruso is not just an ordinary handkerchief, it's not cheap either. She must be very fond of you to take an extra effort.

Otap's great, danggit's superb. It's not easy to check-in one's baggage when one flies, let alone bring "pasalubongs" for others. She's inded a keeper of a co-worker not because of the gifts but because of her thoughtfulness.

She's really a keeper & very thoughtful indeed.
I agree Armando Caruso are really expensive hence, I was really surprised.
Thank you for dropping by... hope to see u around more often. ^_^
