The commercial internet has only been around for about 25+ years. Amazon 24 years ago, Google 20 years ago, Facebook 14 years go, YouTube 13 years ago, Instagram 9 years ago, Snapchat 7 years ago.
In the grand scheme of human development, that isn't a long time given that the Industrial Revolution alone lasted about 70 years.
Living through this Digital Revolution, one thing is clear, content and information is the currency of which the internet runs on and we're all relatively early in this era.
This would mean that there are tremendous gaps, frictions and opportunities in this space and it will be shown explicitly to the most curious observers and relentless explorers - and this is where we, marketers and brand managers fall short.
More often, we are guilty of not diving deep enough and getting our hands dirty in the process to truly understand how digital marketing works. The intertwined connections of every player in this space, why and how, the nuances and most importantly the actual participation in different fundamentals and dimensions of this art.
What is the root cause of all of this and where do we go from here? Here I try to address this BIG question.
