What is COMMON Cents?

COMMON Cents is a cryptocurrency — a new form of money — designed to unlock radical collaboration within and for the community.

Unlike other digital currencies, COMMON Cents is limited to the COMMON community and its members. It is not an investable asset class, nor is it a means of financial speculation or arbitrage. COMMON Cents is a blend of community equity, local currency, and a financial safety net.

It’s change - for a community.

More than a Name and a Number

You are valuable — and we want to reward that. Designed as a medium to provide a Universal Basic Income, COMMON Cents will allow you to unlock your full potential.

The purpose of the COMMON Universal Basic Income (UBI) is to:

Acknowledge the intrinsic value of every member of the community, independent of their objective contributions;
Give each member the breathing room to make decisions about how to spend their time, independent of basic material needs.

We Recognize Value in a Diverse Network

Although nothing is required to earn COMMON Cents, additional participation in the community will be recognized in 6 distinct areas. We understand that not everybody can contribute financially — and we believe that’s OK.

Areas of Community Interaction

  • Supporting COMMON Wellness
  • Participating in COMMON Education
  • Participating with COMMON Technologies
  • Contribution of Commodities
  • Contribution of Financial Capital

Preserving COMMON Society and Culture

“We aren’t necessarily well trained at operating, thriving, or functioning powerfully within a network. It’s time for that >to change.” — Mark Eckhardt, COMMON Leader and CEO

We Appreciate Value — Not Distill It

We live in a world that can’t holistically value human contribution within organizations. By utilizing social media tools to measure participation across varying domains within our community, we track radical collaboration as it happens.

Find Your North Star

A new day is dawning — are you ready to see what you are really worth?

The difference between a caterpillar and a butterfly is not in the degree of their beauty, but the degree to which they can share it.

The day of the lone wolf is over — let us be your cocoon.

We are COMMON — so you don’t have to be.

COMMON.is Bringing Back COMMON Cents at the COMMON Unsummit, May 23rd — 25th in Boulder, Colorado.

“Culture is the number one driver of organizational performance — not technology or strategy — It’s the way people collaborate and network together. In sales and marketing, collaboration and relationship building is the number one driver of value. The number one factor of longevity and health is not lifestyle or fitness, but rather the health of your relationships and community. The things that make humans work well together is our collective intentionality. We have the ability to dream and envision a future that does not exist. We share this ability through symbols.” — Philip Folsom, Anthropologist and COMMON Member

interesting project. thanks for sharing.

I do have my doubt that this will take off, the reason I am saying that is there have been other projects that have tried to be a currency in niches but always failed. what makes this any different?

thanks for the article :P

You're very right. This isn't a unique project.

This project is different for a few reasons. We're utilizing proven methodologies utilized in cooperatives (like Mondragon) in addition to blockchain technology - and backing it was an existing impact-driven community.
