I didn't know about Steemit allowing video posts soon. I'll go looking for information on that, but if you have a link handy that'd be helpful.

Here you go. I know there are a few other projects out there . I'm guessing it wont take more than another month or 2. https://steemit.com/viewly/@furion/this-demo-app-lets-you-publish-videos-on-steem
This is also a good idea. Videos via torrents https://steemit.com/steemit/@therealpepe/decentralized-video-streaming-actual-working-posible-solution
Looks promising! I wonder if download speeds will be an issue. DTube seems a bit slow for me so far.
These things will be a bit slower in the beginning until the network grows more. That is the trade-off for avoiding services like Youtube, Facebook etc. In case you don't know: when you share a video as a torrent then the first people watching the video will be downloading it from your device. After that, new people will be downloading the video from anyone else who is online and has downloaded it.
So any Torrent, IPFS, Freenet etc link will be as fast or slow as your personal device is at first, but after a few views it will be just about as fast as anything else.
