Crazy to think about, at least for me lol
Steemit is revolutionary and is such an amazing platform! As an Eco-concious person, I have been torn about the more traditional cryptos. One part of me is ecstatic about all the needed benefits of decentralization and the power of the blockchain to transform the future of the internet and the world economy. The other part of me sees all of the energy and resulting pollution of mining with millions of processors. Here on Steemit we have the best of both worlds though! Decentralized currency with minimal energy consumption needed for mining. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
I agree that the articles that show how much energy is consumed for mining cryptocurrency certainly show a staggering amount. I have less negative of the current levels though, as I am looking at the implications further down the line. Decentralization via blockchain will disrupt so many industries that undoubtedly consume high amounts of energy and produce pollution. Technology will continue its march of being more a ubiquitous aspect of human experience and hopefully we can work on improving sustainability of the system, while still allowing for a less fearful mindset to encourage wider adoption.
