In my last Steemit Statistics post it was apparent that DTube was doing quite well while Steemit was showing some decline in numbers. In this post I am going to zoom in on the popular video platform to see what's going on. Let's crunch some numbers!
How many people visit DTube?
This statistic shows the number of visits to the DTube site

We can see that DTube is still growing strong in contrary to Steemit. Although the total number of visits (4.3 million) is a lot less then Steemit's 39 million, this is still a good sign for DTube. The site gets 1.5 million unique visitors which is relatively high when compared to Steemit. It seems that DTube attracts a more dedicated audience. The average visit duration is a little less than 5 minutes which is not bad, DTube's content is enough to keep the audiences entertained.
Those who visit DTube tend to visit 3-4 "pages" or videos so these aren't people who are window shopping but visitors who are genuinely interested to see what the site has to offer. This is also reflected in the lower bounce rate (again compared to Steemit).
This includes visits from different devices like laptops/PC and smartphones).
We saw from the Steemit Statistics that Steemit.com's growth had halted but DTube on the other hand is still growing strong. The site has some catching up to do and shows no signs of slowing down.

For this graph I looked at the total amount of visits during the last 3 months. We can see an explosive growth in January and despite the current crypto dip DTube is still going strong in February. The growth has flattened out a bit in February but the amount of traffic to the site is still going up.
Where do they come from?
This statistic shows which countries the visits originated from.

Quite surprising most visits originated from Germany, usually it is the U.S. that generates the most traffic. DTube is very popular in the European country, last month the traffic from Germany went up 16.4%. Almost 1 out of 4 visitors of DTube are German. Maybe time to pick up a second language? It is interesting to see that U.S. visits are also increasing on DTube where their interest in Steemit has been going down for some time now. The only red numbers on this top 5 come from Poland and the UK. Also nice to see Canada up there!
How did they find Steemit?

Interesting numbers here. Most traffic to DTube is direct most like Dtubians (just made that up!). But also a lot of Referral traffic and Social Media. DTube is also not slouching in the search engine department, almost 15% of the people find DTube through the Google search engine (I don't believe people still use Bing or any other engine).
Who is generating the Traffic?

Ah, Steemit.com, who else would be number 1 in the Top referring websites charts? Although it is strange that it's share is going down, by 35% nonetheless. Traffic from news.ycombinator.com on the other hand has gone up a whopping 5,000%. I wonder what caused that. It seems to pay to post your links on this site for some extra views.
The most sought after category on DTube is news and media followed by Tech news. How different this is from Steemit where most people are searching for investment tips.
What are they searching for?
These are the keywords people used in search engines that lead them to the Steemit website.

This is the stat I was most interested in. What were the people looking for before they ended on DTube? Well, the answer is DTube! Apparently a lot of people are trying to find the site but have no idea how to spell the name right. Is it d tube, d-tube, d.tube....? At least the top 5 doesn't have d.youtube in it.
Social media interest
This is the traffic originating from the social media sites.

OMG (don't know if people still say this) but whatever....The most Social Media referrals come from that archaic, centralized, video hosting site that does not reward content creators as it should, also known as Youtube. 67% is a huge number, it looks like DTube is getting some nice attention from Youtubers. You can bet that the growth of DTube has a lot to do with Youtubers coming over to the decentralized platform.
The social media referrals are good for a total of half a million visits, which is a lot considering the total visits is about 4 million...
DTube is really taking advantage from the Youtube referrals and taking the fight directly to their competitor. If things keep going this way Youtube might be in for a fight, but don't start getting ideas yet. Youtube is still ranked #3 on the similarweb charts and the total visits to Youtube total 23.4 billion (with a B). Even though traffic to youtube has gone down 10% last month, DTube still has a way to go if they want the people at Youtube central nervous.
DTube has momentum even though Steemit is slowing down a bit (maybe it is time for Hard Fork 20 to liven things up a bit). Every stat shows an increasing interest from visitors. The search results in particular show that people are not directed to DTube based on the content found on the site but that people are searching for the site itself by name.
It is great to see that a large number of traffic comes from Youtube, it would be great if this number can grow even more in the future. Youtube is getting a lot of criticism because of their censorship and the way they treat their users, this might lead to more Youtubers seeking a safe haven on DTube.
Things are looking good for DTube, remember that the site is still young and still has a lot of growing to do. But the way things are looking now the future seems bright for the decentralized video platform.
