You'd think that we'd be living in a utopia, but education could also lead to people getting smart in ways that harm the planet or other humans more (perhaps we'd have a bunch of people educated in the business of organized crime, or creating nuclear weaponry).
Education is important, but it must also be directed.
That's just me splitting hairs, though. A smarter population is a better population, so any country not taking their populace's education seriously will be worse off for it (potentially being outcompeted by the smarter countries a generation or so down the line).
