Hi there. In this education post, I talk about Summer learning for the kids. It seems that I do one of these posts every Summer. I write up my posts from scratch in RStudio. Typing fast helps with productivity and coming up with a lot of posts.

Abundance Of Free Time

For the young students they go from being at school for 6 to 7 hours to no obligations. They have so much free time. Maybe too much free time that they don't know what to do with it. A good handful of kids may spend their time going on family vacations. Other households may not have the luxury of vacations but they want their kids to do something over the summer break. It makes sense for some families to have their kids in summer camps or do extra learning. In a lot of cases, investing time and money in education does have good benefits.

Keeping The Brain Sharp And Active

The summer activities for the kids over the break can be educational. It may not be educational as in sitting and learning in a classroom. Summer activities tend to be more dynamic and interactive to keep the kids engaged and entertained. Activities may include:

  • Sports Camps
  • Martial Arts Summer Camps
  • Music Lesson Camps
  • Extra Tutoring For Those Catching Up Or Staying Ahead
  • Language Lessons
  • Dance Camps
  • Arts & Crafts Camps
  • Outdoor Camping
  • Go Karts
  • Cooking Classes

Some of the above camps and activities are not in regular schools. Something like dancing and sports may not be in many schools. In general, classroom based learning has a lot of sitting and not so much moving around like in sports, martial arts and dancing. Participating in movement based activities do have to learn in different ways. A lot of practice is needed to build muscle memory and memory for retaining skill and technique.

Participating in summer activities also keeps the brain active. Two months of a summer holiday is a fair bit of time and it is likely that students forget some or most of what they have learned from the school year. Doing some summer activities does have the brain do some learning to keep it active.
