Ehwaz
Anglo-Saxon name: Eh
This symbol is not used in the Younger Futhark.
The words ehwaz and eh are Old Germanic and Old English, respectively, for “horse.” While in Norse legend this rune was linked with Odin’s magical eight-legged horse, the Old English rune poem associates it with a warrior’s horse.
Ehwaz is concerned with movement, making progress, and improvement in all aspects of life. It is particularly helpful in relationships, especially marriage. Reflecting the bond between a horse and rider, this rune is symbolic of trust, loyalty, and mutual support. Ehwaz helps move toward goals and speeds up transitions. Although it is linked with movement, this rune is also an aid when steadfastness is called for.
When selected for divination or guidance, Ehwaz indicates that gradual and steady effort maintains progress. By taking your time, you can manage changes in your business or personal life. Amazonite, clear calcite, lapis lazuli, malachite, and phenacite are especially effective for working with the energy of Ehwaz.
