Raghuram Rajan, who was the RBI governor of India a few years back had an interview recently in 2018 with NDTV and in that he spoke of something which resonates with a lot of people in society nowadays and that fact is that we have lost our trust in the elite.
The elite as we all know is a faction comprised of all the rich people within society and they are often the big bankers or CEO, owners of big companies. The higher their population number, the bettr representation we have at how rich a country is or an idea is given about the wealth distribution.
But the fact of the matter remains that people have essentially lost their trust in these people because they have made policies which suit them more than the people at the bottom. They’ve essentially dictated how people at the bottom should live. Their rules and policies have created an advantage for them to benefit whilst other people at the bottom suffer the problems due to them.
Immigration being one of those policies, now Immigration was the answer to solving a financial crises which happened in post WWII Britain due to the financial crises which occurred because of the elite spending a lot of money on the war. However, people didn’t have a choice in the matter because the government made that decision on their own, if they did then polls would’ve been held for allowing instating immigration.
Brexit was probably one of those moments where the people finally had a choice or say in the matter, previously if that choice would’ve been exercised then Britain wouldn’t have taken part in the Iraq war. Despite the economic consequences, why many people are saying that we should stick to Brexit is that this is what the people have said and the leaders should agree to that. It would be undemocratic of them to disregard Brexit and stay within the EU.
I know that there was a lot of misinformation and bias that was spewed that influenced the results that we have today and to be fair that referendum is also undemocratic because people didn’t have the proper facts and were led astray and voted based on lies.
This then leads us back to the fact that the elites who have power influence our decisions meaning our decisions are not our own but in fact they are someone else’s and the average citizen is tired of that because now he doesn’t know who to believe and who not to.
