The path towards becoming an entrepreneur is one full of uncertainties, you conceive a new business idea and just want to swing into action towards it realization regardless of the possible adversities abound at various stages of its initiation. This is why entrepreneurs could be regarded as risk-taker, more reason why entrepreneurs are expected to accept their mistakes, learn from them, re-strategize and lastly bounce back. According to statistics, roughly 20 percent of businesses survive their first year, that is why you hear a lot of startup’s fold up after a year or few years of operating. Most big entrepreneurs you see have a story to tell, a story based on failure and how they were able to retrace their steps to success. If you are an entrepreneur or a prospective one, always have it at the back of your mind that the road may be rough, you need to prepare yourself for whatever failure that might surface.
Below is a quick guide on how to get over your lows in the event of or a potential failure.
Change your perception about failure
The first thing is changing your perspective about failure, dwelling in the cold clutch of fear after realizing that everything you have worked hard for is about to crumble before you shouldn’t be the next line of action. Yes, you may need a little time to deal with the emotions to help you get over them but doing this could unknowingly lead to you slipping into depression which is the wrongest place to be at such times. You need to pick up yourself and banish the negative thought that you are a failure whose next action would result in further failures. Realizing that failure could be normal sometimes and treating it as a life experience will help you grow not just as an individual but professionally too if only you learn how to deal with it rather than losing hope in yourself.
Learn and adapt
You need to always accept responsibility for your mistakes rather than putting blames on others. There are two options available to you which are wallowing in your failures and sinking deeper into the abysmal cycle of negativity and depression or, approaching each day with a reasonable amount of positivity and staying optimistic about the future. If you chose the latter option then you need to take action by exploring, learning and believing in yourself even if it requires you changing direction. You failing means you haven’t found a successful way of doing things, you need to approach the situation more analytically to help you figure out where you had it wrong.
Remember failure isn’t exactly the opposite of success but rather the path of the process towards achieving success.
Get a Mentor
Mentors are very essential especially if you are a professional or you are about to start a new business. You mentor is expected to be enlightened and experienced in making it easy for them to help in designing a roadmap and connect all necessary dots that would help kick-start your business idea. They are meant to put you aright and prevent you from or encourage you to heed pieces of advice that make a thin line between success and failure.
It helps to have someone in the know to always channel you to the right course because experience is the present tutor that prevents you from repeating the past in the present.
Take the Next step
Taking another step after a failure could be scary because you never know what to expect this time. You should regardless, because in the long run when you look back, only then will you realize how far you have gone. The earlier you take the step, the more likely you are to overcome your saddened state and negative thoughts.
Look back at your accomplishments
After the next little steps have been taken, you should look back to see how far you have gone, the progress you have made, appreciate and if possible celebrate it. This is because identifying your accomplishments on the small stuff will propel you more with a higher sense of confidence to embark on the big stuff. Don’t wait for the needed confidence to come from people, let it come from within and believe more in yourself.
Try out new stuffs/project
If you have now progressed and feel you are open to trying out new things, you could explore beyond your comfort zone, be receptive to new ideas and do away with old ones. You should consider new ways of problem-solving, try out riskier solutions and experiment more, you might be surprised at the unexpected amazing results and the pivotal effect it will have on your business and confidence.
Be Consistent
Consistency is the master key in whatever we do, you need to leave the depressing effect your previous failure had on you and work harder, you need to build the consistency with is usually accompanied with a success filled momentum. The moment your new successes start coming through, the easier it becomes to keep up and take the next step.
Final Words
As an entrepreneur, you need to trust the process. This is because most times the good things don’t come immediately and even if does, it usually comes gradually. Regardless of whatever challenges faced or failure experienced, you need to keep believing and accept that failing doesn’t mean you haven’t worked hard or given your all, it just a medium for you to learn new things which would make your success story worth it at the end.
