Four years
It took me four years to get around to publishing my first collection of poetry
In all honesty, the actual work involved amounts to a couple of month at most of writing, editing, and designing. No more.
Then again, the work in creative endeavors is never just the work.
There’s more to it than that.
But day job, but finishing school, but bills, but getting married, but vacation. But life.
All the buts.
So, instead of cranking it out the collection was tinkered with from time to time. Then, set to simmer. Our first collaborative print project, ICONS, was much the same.
Not to say how I have gone about it is the right way to finish something. This is just to say it is not a wrong way. While dragging out the pain that comes with publishing a book may seem masochistic, sometimes that method is the only feasible way to accomplish it.
“It took a long time, but it’s finished,” will always beat “One of these days I will have some uninterrupted time to focus on that book.”
