US Preparing to Get Out of the United Nations Human Rights Council

Diplomats say the United States (US) will leave the main body of human rights (UN). The superpower argued that the Human Rights Council was biased against the Zionist Israel.

The move will be the latest insult to the Trump government for the international community. Nevertheless, the US State Department on Friday said there has been no decision to come out as quoted from the AP on Saturday (16/06/2018).

But diplomats who asked not to be named said the real problem was when, if it really happened, the US withdrawal would occur. The United States has been buzzing this threat since a year ago by Washington's UN Ambassador Nikki Haley.

For information, there is no UN human rights council member who volunteered in the last 12 years. Seven years ago, in the midst of the Arab Spring phenomenon, Libya led by Moammar Gadhafi was kicked out with the approval of the UN General Assembly, which had a final decision.

In March, the United States threatened to evaluate its membership in the UN Human Rights Council, UNHRC. The threat was made by the superpower after the UN Human Rights Council adopted five anti-Israel resolutions. The resolution condemned Israeli policy and called on the world community to stop arms sales to Tel Aviv.

This is not the first time a US envoy has defended Israel's position at the UN. In December, Haley noted that the UN remains a hostile venue for the State of Israel. He wondered why Israel chose to remain at the UN given its clear antipathy toward the Jewish state.
