Being a Stay at Home Dad

in #family5 years ago

First let me start off by saying I was not always at stay at home dad. I have worked in construction for a lot of my younger life even being a manager for a construction company. I was a farm hand one summer and have worked in a couple different mills as a operator off very large machinary. None of these jobs are easy in fact most of the time they are physically demanding and very stressful due to deadlines, other co workers, or just working the tons and tons of overtime you can end up putting in without any kind of notice. Even those the jobs where hard I was always very proud to be a blue collar worker supporting my family and the last 5 years putting my wife through collage. She wasn't just doing studying courses and doing homework though we have 4 boys togather my oldest Logan is 10 my two twins Lucus and Liam are 4 and little Levi is only 11 months behind the twins at 3. They are rowdy funny crazy boys and they give there mother a run for there money needless to say. But I always thought that it would be easier and more fun then what I'm doing but never did I want to stop working it was like a day dream I would have when I was plugging away at work. Well about a year ago that dream was forced into reality. My back started going out and I was not able to work like I wanted and with my wife graduating collage we decided the best thing would be to switch positions. So she applied and got a job very quickly so I quit my job at the mill and started being a stay at home dad on Monday like I was starting a regular job and you know what the first couple days where a breeze kids where good no big messes they did everything I asked it was awesome I got to do most of the cooking which I love to do I was in heaven. Then i think there excitement of dad being home wore off cause all hell broke lose Levi would be playing in the toilet while Lucus would be running outside and my stuntman Liam would be climbing the cabinets above the counter. It was crazy and it was none stop I literally have no time to do anything but chase these rug rats and feed them and run around or little town either for groceries or taking Logan to whatever sport he is playing. I had a rough go for a while and when they all got sick I almost couldn't handle it. I have a very weak stomach for other people's bodily fluid. And it was everywhere from time to time. I swear those boys would make my head spin. Easy job my ass this is probably the hardest job I have ever done and they wear me out and drain me mentally but it is also the most rewarding job I have ever had just small things like potty training and celebrating with them when they finally do it or teaching and experiencing things with them for the first time is just amazing. I love my boys but man being a stay at home parent is by far the hardest job I have ever had and it's one the will touch your heart and soul like no other.
