Kotohira end of summer festival

The previous post showed mostly low servants, in this post you can see higher ranking servants and officials. The higher ranked retainers of the local feudal lord are accompanied by musicians, treasures, and weapon bearers. In feudal Japan, lords would frequently move locations and did so with such entourages if they were of notable power.

The below picture is of government officials and recognizable with different style of clothing and head wear..

Below servants and their guards carry items of importance, treasure and luggage. Monks also may carry protable shrines.

Kotohira festival is different to the usual festival as its more of a historical parade. The feudal lord also appeared on horse back during the parade but it was too dark and flashes were prohibited. Next post will be a different type of festival....

Thanks for viewing, my posts are about the journey, the process and showing my experiences. Where there are a lack of words I like my work to speak for its self. Don't hesitate to ask questions. All the photos are mine and can be found at https://www.flickr.com/photos/takoyaki_king/ Follow me if you interested in photography and travel.

That last photo really looks like Spanish Holy Week processions, except that they would be carrying something with Christian imagery and have pointy hats. Looks like a fun time, anyway :-)

Haha cool, strange how cultures with no direct contact have similar traditions
