The Cloud of Doubt - Original Rhyming Children's Story

in #fiction7 years ago

Preface: this is a short fictional piece I wrote earlier in the year with the intended audience of children. Nonetheless, don't be fooled, it carries a very relevant and adult message. I hope you enjoy it!

Note: The story was intended to be presented with artwork except alas, the story is the most important part :)

The Cloud of Doubt

A bright and cheery man called Dave was out and about,
when he stumbled across a cloud of doubt.
The cloud sat high above some poor mans head,
so Dave stepped forward ensuring he was careful to lightly tread.

“What’s wrong?” Dave asked gently as he inched closer still,
yet the man sat motionless staring out over the horizon of a nearby hill.
He immediately knew something was wrong, that something wasn’t quite right,
so Dave looked up and begged the cloud to tell him of the mans plight.

The cloud refused to tell and instead held out a hand,
which Dave embraced as he followed the clouds command.
At a touch he was instantly transported into the mind of the sad man,
and the cloud of doubt proceeded to show Dave around.

He soon realised the man was afraid, even terrified,
for he had been put down and criticised.
It was clear to Dave now what was wrong,
and he knew what he needed to do to help the man get moving along.

“I know your sad that others don’t understand” said Dave, as the man turned to face him with eyes strong and brave.
“Nobody will if you don’t let them see,
like the cloud of doubt that let me”.

It was then the man looked up at the cloud above his head,
and began to blow the doubt away until his face turned red.
It was just an act of understanding that the man had needed to heal his sorrow,
and a gentle heart like Dave’s to show him how to live for a better tomorrow.
