While ze could not stay due to promises and the heavy hand of Fate, sometimes Fate decided to give a kindness and let hir stay for a time to visit the young children. They were growing healthy, strong, and were as close and as protective of each other as any family could wish. They also were learning the lessons of kindness, and how to care for others as well.

Wraithvine had held the four of them in hir arms. Sang them to sleep. Helped them learn to walk. The Hellkin, the Halloblood, and the far more ordinary Human. Of the quadruplets, it was the little Human that had Wraithvine's wary attention. If anyone was going to be fate-touched, it would be the last one anyone else might suspect.

Thus, the wards ze left for little Daisy were both extreme and more solid than granite.

The next time ze visited, they were children eager to welcome their "Unty Waif". All smiles with missing teeth, scraped knees, and undying enthusiasm. Lib, the only one of the four with wings, lifted up her sister so she could join the joyous, squealing assault on Wraithvine's arms and senses.

Wraithvine was too happy to hold them all, and to later regale them with a brand-new Wraithvine story. Or, as the quadruplets called them, "Waiffine Tories." They were four. Many things could be excused.

Of course ze brought gifts. Little trinkets suitable for a child. Little lessons in magic, or at least simple spellwork they could try. What Wraithvine never told them that these were all subtle tests. Some to see if they were heroes reborn, others to see if they had an innate talent.

And in every single one of them, Daisy remained as remarkable and extraordiary as a brick.

Wraithvine knew better than to relax about that. It only meant that Daisy was due for a surprising outbreak at a later time.

The twin Hellkin, Vigilance and Fortitude, were adept sorcerers. As the largest of the four, they appointed themselves their siblings' guardians. Daisy appointed herself her brothers' shield, playing her cuteness against those who still had prejudice against Hellkin.

Lib perforce, became the quadruplet's impromptu lawyer.

It was when the children learned to read and write that Daisy's gift began to shine. Alongside the alphabet, Wraithvine taught the four runes.

Daisy excelled at them, proving herself to be an excellent artificer.

The plans that Fate had for the four of them were promising to be interesting.
