Again! The man slammed the steering wheel. Why had he let the salesman sell him this lemon? He climbed out of the car wearily and started walking towards the distant town.

Dark things looked out of windows, pondering the desperate man who did not feel the urge to pass by.

A #fiftywords challenge entry. This week's theme was "lemon".

Inspired by the webserial Pact, where a character mentions how places that have been overun by evil have spells placed on them to deter people. They become only dots on the map, places you drive by but never stop at.

Having traveled a lot and passed many small towns, I have to say, it's a really creepy thought.

Oh my gosh, this is so interesting, @carn! I feel like I stumbled into a Twilight Zone episode. Is it part of a larger story, or have you captured all you want to capture in this micro-fiction piece? Well done.

I've had the idea hanging around for a while and it was the only thing I could think of with the prompt of "lemon". :D I feel like it could be a little longer, as I wanted to add a little more of the horror of walking into an "empty" town while still leaving it open ended, but I don't know if I'll ever get around to it.

I would see what happens if you write a bit more. You will know if it has legs then.
