RE: Shooting a video for Paradise Lost

in #filmmaking10 months ago

well hallo :)

some clever workarounds to keep it on a budget and to make it look good.

the fight looks great and the idea to do it this way made it great (to make it look epic with "classic light" would need a Hollywood crew :D

i was wondering how you did the part with arrows, nice editing to not overcomplicate the shot :)

i also like the idea of the shadow puppets.

would be fun to hear from someone who does this for a living, if you get the time. i will give all my excuses after the roast :D

Ah thanks @bil.prag for the kind words.
The arrows bit was my friend Davey - he had suitable long hair!
I strapped some think insulation board to his chest using two belts, then made some arrows from old sticks with ‘feather’ ends made of paper.. then I just stuck them in to the board. The silhouette is very forgiving in hiding a lot of things like that 😂
As you say, with classic lighting I’d be a bit fucked 😂

Love the mood of your video mate. It makes me ask the question, who has he lost?
Visually is fun, but I was wanting a little more perspective from the shots, playing with some depth and perspective from the interesting surrounding landscape.

With such long held shots which are moving forward (which I’m a fan of) I’d try to smooth the walking bounce out a bit too. But it didn’t take away from the mood.

i seen some contraptions for arrows but it is way complicated :D editing and his movement did a good job. what was the shutter speed, how slow did you go for those shots?

Interesting that i didn't think about more perspective and it makes perfect sense.

i hated that, especially the walking shot that reviles those wacky houses. but i thought i need that shot, so i left him with all the bounce.

everything was filmed with a DJI mini (first version) that did not want to fly. we got there i got him in the air and in 20 seconds it just dropped to the ground (ice on propellers, not even that cold, like -4c but it was probably humidity). there is one smooth following shot i got like 10 good seconds before it crashed :D

After that we were like, we are here, lets do it by hand :D

Thanks.
