The Roommate, flash fiction romance by Meredith Loughran, exclusively for #Steemit

He watched her from across the room; the way her long, wavy brunette hair kissed her shoulders; the hourglass shape of her body; her long legs in those ridiculously short shorts.

Derek closed his eyes against the vision to help ease the ache in his groin. It didn't help because all he could envision was kissing the shoulder her hair caressed, imagining her legs wrapped around him as he held fast to her round ass, thrusting deep into her. Man, he could die and go to heaven if that ever happened.

But it's not gonna happen, asshole he thought. Lacey was his best friend and roommate. Hooking up with each other was off limits.

"Hey Derek, can you help me with this?"

Taking a deep breath to calm himself, he did his best to look bored when he looked up. She was wearing a corset top that nearly had her full breasts popping out of the top. A top that was meant to be thrown on the floor so he could suckle the hard buds of her nipples. Is this woman trying to kill me?

She turned for him exposing the zipper that she couldn't quite reach.

"And where do you think you're going in a getup like that?" he asked in his most paternal voice, praying it didn't crack because his mouth had suddenly gone very dry.

"Oh, just out with the girls, cruising for guys, I guess," she sighed. "Don't look at me like that."

"Like what?"

"You did that quirk with your eyebrow," she said over her shoulder

"Did not," he denied.

"Yes, you did. You always do that when you question my judgment."

"I guess I'm confused," he replied. "I thought you were hooked up with Mr. Pushups."

He loved her deep laugh.

"Mr. Pushups and I broke up about a week ago. I couldn't take being a second-class citizen to dumbbells."

His hand froze mid-air reaching for her zipper. He tried to laugh with her but his mind raced. She's free?! Now's your chance, big stuff.

"Hello...? Zipper?"

"Hm? Oh yeah, sorry," he said. Derek stood behind her smelling the fresh clean of her hair and light scent of perfume. She was one of those girls who didn't swim in that shit, but enough to lure a guy in for a closer inspection of her neck. His hands shook as he reached for her zipper. "I was distracted by the fact that he broke up with you, that's all. But I shouldn't be surprised," he taased. "Your fuckin' ugly as hell."

Actually, I'm more distracted by your perfume and how close I am to ripping your clothes off and hauling you to my bed.

She whipped around and playfully smacked him on the chest. "Oh hell no. I broke up with him, asshole!" It was their usual banter. Call it a term of endearment.

They stood for a moment staring at each other with silly grins on their face. It felt like a lifetime of smiles. He loved the amber bursts that seemed to glow from the depths of her brown eyes.

Holy shit, I love her. The realization hit him like a ton of bricks. His eyes roamed the classic heart shape of her face. He took in every detail, from the blush of her high cheekbones, to her pert little nose that turned up at the end, to her full mouth. He couldn't stop staring at her pink lips, dabbed with a little bit of clear gloss. He could see the subtle pulse in her neck quicken to match his own heartbeat. She bit her lower lip at the corner - something she always did when she was a little nervous.

Swallowing hard, he tried to get his shit together. She was his roommate and off limits. "Zipper?"
It was all he could say.

She blinked a couple of times as if to break from her own reverie. "Oh." She turned again to present her back.

Very slowly, he allowed his knuckles to caress her spine as each tooth caught and covered her soft, smooth skin. He heard her breathing quicken and saw the goosebumps raise on her arms and shoulders.

"You cold?" he asked.

"No. I'm actually... This corset is a little too tight. Maybe I should change into something else."

Oh, how his lips craved to taste every inch of her body. She was right there. Standing in front of him. Waiting...? But before he could make a move, she walked away.

Fuck, fuck, FUCK! He didn't think he'd ever get an opportunity like that again. You are so fucking stupid!
Derek watched as she slowly made her way toward the door, grabbing her little clutch purse and cellphone.

"Hey, don't wait up for me," she joked, but her smile was a little halted. As she turned to leave he heard the words but couldn't believe he said it aloud. "Don't go."

She hesitated; her hand on the doorknob...waiting. She didn't turn around...but she didn't go.

Bolstering up his courage, he approached her. His large hand covering hers and pulling it away from the door. She still didn't turn around.

"Please don't go," he whispered into her ear. The goosebumps returned to her shoulders and he kissed them, wrapping his other arm around her small waist.

His heart felt like shattering when she pulled away and turned to look at him. Had he crossed the line? He watched her beautiful breasts as they rose and fell with her breathing. He couldn't quite make himself look into her eyes. He couldn't take the rejection.

Her small hand felt warm against his cheek as she coaxed him to look at her. Then she leaned in and kissed him. His heart exploded with emotion. She was kissing him.

"I love you," he whispered into her giving mouth.

"What took you so long, asshole?" she smiled. In fact, her whole body seemed to radiate joy.

He unzipped the corset top and let it fall to the floor where the damned thing belonged, kissing the top of her breasts reverently before teasing each nipple with his tongue. She demanded more kisses and he obliged. She was magical and he wanted more needed more. Pressing her soft body against the wall, he lifted her so she could feel how hard he was for her as he rubbed his groin against her. He could feel the heat of her and felt totally frustrated that their clothes blocked entry to heaven.

"Ahh..." she sighed. "Say it again."

"I love you," he groaned before nibbling her earlobe.

"I love you back."

Smiling he bantered, "It took you long enough, asshole."

As he lifted her, she wrapped those beautiful long legs around him. There was no doubt about their intentions. He carried her to the bedroom knowing she wasn't just his roommate. She was his soulmate and asshole partner for better or worse.

The End
