turtle power!

no, not teenage mutant ninja turtles.. I mean the real life ones. When I think of chill, long lived animal, I think of turtle. Actually, arne't turtles the ones who swim, so I am actually meaning tortoise.. the slow, land based, rather large ones I see at zoos or on videos.

I looked it up yesterday and read about the oldest recorded tortoise who was 190 years old. That's pretty old. There are a few other animals who live even longer.. like whales and the longest living.. sea urchins or coral or like that. So, I like to think humans are more like tortoises, since they are also land creatures.

or how about a land mammal that we all know very well.. DOG. now, most dogs don't live that long, compared to humans, but I think we can learn something from observing them. What I've learned is that small dogs live longer, compared to large dogs. Less stress on the joints and organs. That makes sense.

but there is one dog I know who I learned is pretty old now (16), which is not an unusual time for a dog to live, except that this is no SMALL dog.. in fact, he is the largest dog I've ever seen in person.. he is a great Pyrenees.. meet OSO..

here he is with my aunt. besides being the biggest dog i know, he is also the most chill and i've never seen him move faster than 1-2 miles an hour.. very tortoise like (but in dog motion). I'm sure that has a lot to do with his longevity.

So, I will SLOW DOWN and live more like Oso and the turtle.
