Introducing new platform to interact with Steem: Folderall.net - focused on making media content reachable and easy to digest. Now in alpha!

in #folderall7 years ago (edited)

Hello everyone! @igster here. I'd like to talk a bit about my first project built upon Steem - Folderall that is currently in alpha (many bugs, yiks!) but hopefully beta won't be too far away.

Little about me first

I've been on Steemit for a year now. Before Steemit my social media time was spent mostly browsing Reddit and before that the infamous 4chan. So one could say I know a bit of these platforms that revolve around content and social interaction. But on these platforms - Reddit and 4chan, I was 99% a lurker. I never posted and very rarely commented. Why bother? Steemit has actually changed that in me and I find myself engaging way more with the community here than in any other place. Yet I still find myself coming back to Reddit for the great media content! So why not bring the content here?

First you need content and the viewers will follow

Reddit has been running for almost a decade now. It has risen to the one of the top visited sites in the USA. I have personally witnessed this progress and yet I still believe in Steemit. I believe that the profits should be shared and content creators rewarded. They do the hard work and currently are rewarded with worthless upvotes. Upvotes that do not bring food to your table. That is what I'd like to change. As I get Folderall to Beta, with all the usability I'd like it to have. I will start my efforts of bringing these content creators to Steemit. One by one. And where the best content is, the users will follow.

Fast and easy

Folderall will be focused on making media content as few clicks away as possible. No long blog posts just videos, gifs, pictures and small snippets of text. All of this should be made accessible without clicking posts and waiting new pages to load. Simplicity will also be one of the goals. This is my goal and hopefully I can reach a state where I can be satisfied with it.

What features are currently in?

Currently users can log in using their Steemit accounts through SteemConnect and their posting key. This means your passwords will not be saved anywhere and you can be sure your account is safe even if you don't trust me. Currently you as a poster will get 100% of the rewards. This can change in the future however, but there will be an announcement if this were to happen. It will be reasonable amount and the aim will be to support further development.

Once you log in, you can:

  • Add content (currently supported media formats are videos from Youtube, GifV from Imgur and all .jpg pictures)

  • Browse new content -feed (This shows all the newest content added by everyone)

  • Like content (Your like will upvote the post with 80% voting power)

  • Comment on a post (Comments some times don't work)

  • Browse your own content -feed. (This will only show your own content)

  • Browse different tags. (You can browse specific tags by clicking on an interesting one in the feed or using the search bar)

  • Adding content only to your own content feed (using private option when posting, your post will only be saved to database that is used for Folderall, meaning your post won't be submitted to Steem blockchain)

  • Direct links to share content (Not yet 100% working, probably more close to 20%, will be fixed soon)

Important: If you post through Folderall, you cannot see comments and upvotes made to them through Steemit. This will be implemented in future.

Features coming

  • Favorite content (When user favorites content, it will be shown in their own content -feed)

  • Ignoring users (Ignoring users will make their content invisible for you)

  • Following users (Following users will show their content in your content -feed)

  • Search to work with multiple tags, currently only the first tag is saved to database and is used in search.

Things to consider while using Folderall

Folderall is still in Alpha, meaning there will be many bugs. Do not expect everything to work perfectly or at all at times. I make changes directly to the live working version (I will eventually change this if need rises) so sometimes the site might just look like totally broken. If that happens, it's better to come back after a few hours or a day.

Also important: When using Folderall you have to remember restrictions on posting to Steem blockchain. You can only make new post to Steem every 5 mins, the site itself currently doesn't limit the posting rate - meaning that your new content won't reach the blockchain at all even if it will show up in the site. This will be fixed in future.

Support is welcomed with open arms

If you're interested in supporting this project, you could choose to delegate SP to this account. All voting power from this account will be directed to those who post through folderall service. Donations will also be powered up and used to support new users. I will also more likely upvote these posts from my personal account as well.

I've found a bug. What to do?

Expect to face many of these. If you happen to find one, you can report them by commenting to posts made with this account. New found bugs will be rewarded with upvotes and there will be a development update every week so reports can be made and be rewarded.

Just take a quick look!

No need to login or enter any information : Folderall. Suggestions, tips and comments are welcome! Critique also! There's a lot of work to be done but I hope this is only one of the many projects that I'll be building on top of Steem!
