Field Trip to Pineapple Whip: A Springfield, MO Summer Tradition

Pineapple Whip has been a summer dessert tradition in Springfield since 1974, and I highly recommend visiting one of these little stands if you are in the area of Southwest Missouri to try this delicious frozen dessert concoction.

The quaint stands, in addition to featuring a literal moving hula girl on top of them, always feature two flavors: you can always get their traditional Pineapple, as well as, according to their website, either Grape, Orange, Strawberry-Kiwi, Mango-Peach, and Nana-Granate.

Last night's featured flavors at the Glenstone stand were Pineapple and Orange. The South Campbell Avenue location is currently also featuring NanaGranate, and the Battlefield location is featuring Strawberry-Kiwi, so to find your fave flavor, sometimes folks drive across town to get to their favorite.

I like the element of surprise. I had the Orange. It's so good.

You can order the goodness in a cup or an ice-cream cone, the flavors come individually or in a twist like ice cream, but this stuff has more of a consistency like gelato, with the taste pretty close to sno-cone flavor. So bad (probably), yet so good.

@jessamynorchard, we drove by the Glenstone location last night heading home from a trip from KC. Recently moved back to Springfield. I guess I need to take my family there soon.

Yes! So delicious. The picnic tables out front make it for a nice family outing! Traffic-watching at all the locations is always a fun event, too. :)

A lot of my friends had their first job there. Do they still take cash only?

This is correct. Cash only. Old school style.
...wonder if we could talk em into accepting BTC? ;)
