HERENSO
Horenso or horinso is a vegetable eaten leaves, from the genus Spinacia. In Indonesia can be found in supermarkets and sometimes known as spinach (from English), unlike spinach (Amaranthus) which is widely known in Indonesia as "spinach". Horenso is usually not suitable for tropical climates such as Indonesia because it is fast flowering so it does not grow many leaves.
Young leaves can be eaten raw and made into a salad. In Indian cuisine, Spinacia vegetables are often cooked in palak paneer with "paneer" (a kind of cheese), or aloo palak with potatoes.
Just like spinach, repeatedly heated spinacia can be harmful to children under 6 months. For a more mature person, there is usually no problem. Heating repeatedly oxidizes the iron content in the leaves so its availability decreases and can poison the body.
