Preparation of Dambu-Nama: A Nigerian Delicacy

Hello guys, welcome to my blog. Why a food Post? Well, just when I thought nothing could take the place of Suya and kilishi, Roseline (a friend from the north) came visiting with 'Dambu' . wandering what 'Dambu' is? 'Dambu' is a popular meat snack prepared by the Hausa/Fulani of northern Nigeria. It is commonly prepared during the Muslim Sala celebrations. 'Dambu' is a mixture of cooked and shredded meat (lamb, beef or chicken) according to Roseline, lamb is the choice meat for making this snack although, chicken and beef could also be used.
'Dambu-nama' is one made with beef. It is tasty, delicious, sumptuous and hmmmm... Yummy.



 Ingredients:

*500grams of beef (trim of traces of visible fat)
*2 pieces of seasoning cubes
*2teaspoons chilli powder
*A ball of onion
*A clove of garlic
*3 table spoons of suya spice(yaji)
*A pinch of salt
*2 table spoons vegetable oil
*1table spoon ginger powder



Procedures


*wash meat and cut into chunks

Season the meat and cut with 1seasoning cube, half chopped onion, 2 crushed garlic clove and ginger powder.
*cook with little water until it becomes tender and easy to pull apart.
*Allow water to dry out.
*Put meat on a cutting board and shred out using two forks in opposite directions or pound meat in a mortar.

*Transfer into a bowl and add 1 seasoning cube, a pinch of salt, the Suya spice (yaji) and the Chilli powder.
  • Mix properly and set aside
    *Pour oil into pan on medium heat.

    *Shallow fry the shredded meat and stir continuously until it turns out crumbly and golden brown.

    Now that your Dambu Nama is ready, it is important for you to know these :Danbu Nama can be served as a snack, an appetizers or taken with other dishes or a drink. However, this sumptuous delicacy can survive in the fridge or in an air tight container for a couple of weeks.
