Something Wicked this Way Comes (fast and low drone flight vLOG)

in #fpv7 years ago (edited)

This week rain hit Northern California and put a damper on drone flight. That did not stop me from trying. Early this week I flew a few runs on the beach in the wind and the rain. The motors were failing intermittently. Eventually, the drone caught fire (as seen in the end of the video).

Before the rain hit, my best flying mini-quad starting doing death rolls for no reason. So most of this week has been chasing down demons and repairing drones. For me, building and repairing drones is relaxing and rewarding.

The video below is a steemit exclusive. It was posted as unlisted on Youtube. The video is dark, wet, and raw. It shows the struggle to fly in adverse conditions. In the end, you can see the electronic speed controller give up and start fire. Lesson learned, you can dunk a waterproofed quad in water for three minutes and fly away as long as you kill the motors under water. Flying in wet conditions appears to add more stress to the system.

As of this morning, I exceeded 350 followers. Thanks for the support! The next milestone is 500!

oh bad luck with your drone

Not so much. I would blame it on bad luck if I did not abuse it so much. I fly in rough conditions and bash it into the ground, trees, and any other solid object that gets in its way. It is a good thing I enjoy the repair work.

that was quite a hazardous flight your drone had, haha

Picking it up while on fire to unplug it and stop the fuel of the flame was a hazard for sure. Luckily, the carbon fiber frame held up to the fire pretty well.
