It's been a long time since I haven't posted a freewrite article in here and I felt a bit inspired today to do that. After all I didn't get to blog that much lately and I kind of missed it. I haven't gone back to Facebook either but simply didn't had the inspiration anymore to be that active... Since Steem is not doing that well in charts, not that the other cryptos are, and since Facebook has announced their own crypto for the future, to be used especially by whatsapp, which is owned by the blue giant I thought that I should write about both platforms a bit and why I choose one over the other and my friends not.
I have to say that I have been writing before about the topic and others have also, such as @erikah and @dragosroua, but the topic seems to renew itself and the most discussed idea is why people are not trading Facebook for Steemit and why are they not celebrating Christmas on Steemit instead of Facebook. Opinions are many and mine is one of them. Actually, yesterday evening I was talking with a friend of mine who came from Belgium for the Holidays and remembered that I told her multiple times about a website like a social media platform that I am using and recommended her also, but she didn't tried it yet...
She was still scrolling through a Facebook feed and still answering Facebook messenger from time to time and I get why. I get why people don't break the doors of Steemit instead of burning their eyes with the blue pill. It's because there are two completely different worlds. Yes, Steemit and Facebook, in my opinion are two completely different worlds and I couldn't even compare them now that I am thinking more about the topic. Just like apples and carrots. Both vegetables, but not similar.
Facebook is the world of groups, the world of meals shared everyday with your friends and family pics shared with exact location also so that everybody knows where you are. Facebook is the world where everybody is happy and you get tons of shares everyday from your friends with wisdom quotes and all sort of insights that supposedly should make your day better. Facebook is that fake world where you go to take your "daily dopamine hit" in the form of likes and shares and comments from your favorites, the app that you can't live without even on the peaks of the mountains. Facebook is absolutely everything that Steemit isn't. Period.
Steem, Steemit, or however you wish to call it is a blockchain based platform. A platform for the crypto enthusiasts mostly, for the geeks, for the bloggers, for people that want to get out of the Matrix and have chosen the right pill. It's the app where you don't have as friends/followers all of your neighbors, uncles and high school friends, but you have people all over the world reading your posts and interacting with you honestly...in my opinion and way different than what you get on Facebook, without the sugary social media things. Steem/Steemit is everything that Facebook isn't and for me it's real when comparing it with Facebook. The least amount of fake that I have seen on any social media platform is on Steem and that's one of the main reasons I am still here. PLUS...in here you can convert your likes into fiat and buy yourself an ice cream which you can't actually do with your blue likes.
Bottom line that's why I swiped RIGHT and I don't even want to look left and burn my eyes again with that blue pill. I am perfectly aware that Steem will probably never be as big as Facebook is and I don't even want that. I don't want to be part of a virtual world like Facebook is and to be among billions of Facebook type users. Steem is enough for me as it is and it seems updating pretty well over time. If my parents or friends will never join Steem and prefer wasting their time on Facebook let them do that. I am fine with what I have and I don't want to beat the drum too much in convincing them to swipe RIGHT.
Thanks for your attention and have a great day!
I gave up trying to convert people from Facebook. When I first found out about steem I made a good effort to bring people over as I talked to them. Most checked it out but never stayed and usually pretty quickly they reverted back to Facebook. Those kind of people will come over once they are led over by the masses of other people, not the early adopters. Even my wife, right now as I type this message, is scrolling through her Facebook feed. She could have made a few thousand dollars here in the 2+ years she's known about it and interacted with some new interesting people a bit, but she'd rather have that quick Facebook fix, instead making nothing and interacting with no one new.
Well I'm glad you got me introduced to it. I was on Facebook the other day for the first time since June. The last time I was on was to post a link to your blog about our sailing adventure last summer. Then again last night to post a link to a short story I had written. I'll keep the account for that reason, and for places like the Officer's Mess in Halifax that uses it for posting about events. I try to stay away because on that platform we are the product. Like you, I have stopped trying to introduce people to steemit. Your mother goes in once in awhile, but generally stays on Facebook. Same for your siblings. Too bad too because @thebrassdoor has some great pictures from his travels through the Nova Scotia woods with his work. He finds so many interesting out of the way places. I know we only pick up a few dollars, or less, for posts, but over time it adds up. Looking back, if you had not introduced me to steemit, I would not have been introduced to the underlying cryptocurrency, and likely would not be able to be going on the sailing adventures we do now. Granted, we are going through a big downturn now, but I still have that sailboat.
I noticed @thebrassdoor connected his Instagram account to steem using Share2Steem which I had mentioned to him a while back. I noticed it's still been two months since he's made a post, though, so maybe something went wrong and he should update it again. The DApps are coming that will allow people to continue using the programs they are using while still earning something from the steem blockchain, it's just a matter of time.
I am kind of in the same situation with recommending Steem to people. I've tried, I talked about it left and right and that's it. If they still want to use Facebook and come to Steem as you said "when everybody else will" then let it be. I am not going to become some Jehova's witness for Steem. The experience though is totally different. I am saying one more tome though that I don't want all the Facebook users to come to Steem because I don't like the Facebook mentality but I would like some to switch lanes.
I agree with you mostly but also I have to say that we cannot being compared with Facebook simply because we don’t have a similar marketing strategy that Facebook has...
They are reaching everyone, we are reaching our closer mates.
We need a marketing project here, soft or aggressive but something has to be done in that field.

That's what I said that we don't reach everyone like Facebook does and I am glad we don't. Facebook is full of spam in my opinion and the Facebook posting mentality is cheap also in my opinion and I wouldn't want that in here. That's why Facebook people don't come in here. I agree that we need more and better marketing but we don't need everyone...
Agree 100%

Thanks for the resteem 😉.
Hey Aces!
Good thought process. But what if you could have both?
When you get a chance, check us out. Still in Alpha, but maybe something you like.

When Beta sir?
The site mostly works. You can set up an account, your profile, establish groups and mess with things. But some things might break right now too. Feel free. We need to find out what needs fixing. You can also post directly to Steem from your own blog in your profile, which will post to the community and provide for full integration as well (votes, comments, replies). Currently it's running the stock SteemPress plugin, so the beneficiary reward is 15% and all goes to them. That's the default and we'll be working in reducing it as we ramp up. That and branding are two of the things that will keep us from at least thinking that we're in beta. But it could be argued that the bells and whistles are there already.
Thanks for using eSteem!
