I am home

in #freewrites2 years ago (edited)

My back made a crack sound as I stood up to take a break from bending. It wasn't broken. With my hoe in my hand, I moved closer to the huge tree for support.

Grandpa told me not to come to the farm with my cousins, he said "You are from the city, you don't have that kind of strength" . Well, I wanted to prove him wrong. So I came with them.

I think that's all I have been doing recently, trying to prove myself. When the CEO tried to move my client to the male colleagues he thought they would handle it better, I stood my ground and proved him wrong. When my ex husband told the court I was too busy to care for my child, I proved him wrong.

"Here, have this."

A hand with a flask stretched out to me. I looked up to see grandpa. I stood up and dust my Jean.

"Grandpa, why are you here?"

"I came to take you home, you must be tired"

He stretched out the flask once more .

"Have this, I brewed some tea leaves for you. It will help you get your strength back." He said.

I smiled as I took the flask from him.

"_But, I am not tired, _" I lied.

He smiled.

"I still want you to come home with me though, I miss you, Let me see your face well before you go back. "

"Your cousins will handle the rest." He added

He took the hoe from me and started moving towards his car.

I followed him.

I watched him drive and cheerfully gist me about all the happenings in the village.

Then, I realized, This is my home and I don't have to proof to anyone here. All they want here is to see me smile and laugh.
