I Made a Bookcase for my Nephew

in #fridayblue7 years ago

My nephew is two but he already has a lot of books. Instead of storing them on a table, I designed and made him a bookcase.

Here's how it went down.

I designed it in Onshape.

Some pine from Home Depot.

I cut it to size.

IMG_8751.JPG

I routed a rebate for the back panel.

IMG_8752.JPG

You see?

IMG_9040.JPG

I realised I had done it all wrong so had to glue some wood into some places.

I 'Kreg'ed some holes into it.

IMG_9043.JPG

Good.

IMG_9044.JPG

I left the bad things to dry.

IMG_9052.JPG

I took out my no.5 jack plane.

IMG_9053.JPG

Here it is. The blade is retracted so it's fine sitting like this.

IMG_9056.JPG

I trimmed the repairs.

IMG_9057.JPG

Assembly time.

IMG_9058.JPG

Yes.

IMG_9059.JPG

Good.

IMG_9062.JPG

This strip makes it look nice.

IMG_9063.JPG

This needed... correcting.

IMG_9065.JPG

So I used this bastard.

IMG_9064.JPG

I used it here too.

IMG_9066.JPG

Good.

IMG_9074.JPG

Then I filled the God damn Kreg holes.

IMG_9075.JPG

I sanded everything with this.

IMG_9078.JPG

I painted it.

IMG_9495.JPG

I cut the back in two because I didn't make it tall enough.

Thirty Days Later (because the paint had to cure)

IMG_9496.JPG

I screwed the top bit.

IMG_9497.JPG

This needed... correcting. Again.

IMG_9065.JPG

So I used this bastard.

IMG_9498.JPG

I screwed it in the bottom.

IMG_9499.JPG

Then I used my genius...

To do this.

And it was done.

I took one more terrible photo then went to bed.

Thanks for stopping by! I will host a Q&A below.

That's some serious craftsmanship! It's so cool that it fits perfectly beneath that table.

Thanks! I measured very carefully but did not take into account the slight table sag in the middle. There is only a 3mm gap! Phew.

I hope your nephew is happy with it. Looks great.

Thanks! I think he will appreciate it one day...

i am shure he will

Your Nephew will be so happy to see this bookcase now and even more happy when he will see this post if you will tell him to take a look at this ,so much hard work you have put in this truly remarkable the final outcome looks so good This is incredibly incredible work by you thanks a lot for sharing dear :)

Thank you! He sadly does not seem to understand the relevance of the post or the actual bookcase, but maybe he will one day 😄
