WTFacts! 😵 - Ultimate Bulletproof Glass?

in #funny7 years ago

I Know some people gets fascinated by any random $#17 that can be found on the internet and by "some people" I mean ME. It is always worth it to waste invest a good amount of time learning weird, incredible FACTS about whatever you find first and then show off to your friend how erudite you are... I know I can't be the only one, lets get straight into it.

The Blood Falls

In Antarctica, there is a crimson red stream that occasionally pours out of Taylor Glacier forming a waterfall that makes it look like the ice is bleeding. Maybe this glacier is a young lady and we found its vagina. Ba Dum Tss!... Actually it comes from an ancient iron rich-hypersaline lake trapped beneath Taylor Glacier which turns red when oxidize on touch with the atmosphere. So it is just rusted salty water?

Blue Family

A family of people with blue skin lived in the U.S. for at least 6 generations. The Fulgates of Troublesome Creek, Kentucky gained their blue skin because of a rare genetic condition known as methemoglobinemia where oxygen doesn’t move so easily through the body and a high level of consanguinity in marriage between families kept the recessive gene for generations.

This just came to my mind. lol.

Transparent Aluminum

Apparently any material that melts can be made into glass. I theory by cooling off a molten material before its molecules have time to realign into what they were before being melted, of course this implies a lot of conditions have to be met. But some very smart guys discovered that a combination of Aluminum, Oxygen and Nitrogen can be transformed into really unbreakable glass.

Walk Around Earth

Let us do some math here. According to a study using data gathered from smartphones in 2017 the average person walks 7.000 steps per day, and according to the World Health Organization (WHO) the average lifespan over the globe is 71.4 years, which is 26440 days and 185 million steps, also, if we take 73cm as the average walking stride length we could say that a common person walks the incredible distance of 135 thousand kilometers. So, if the equatorial circumference of our planet is (according to NASA) 40.030,2 Km, the average person walks almost the equivalent of three and a half times around the world in a lifetime… just average.

French was the official language of England for centuries. Yeah… In 1066 William the Conqueror invaded England and wiped out the English army, establishing a new empire, a Norman-French empire. For centuries French was the only written language in England, and English was only spoken by the working class or in rural areas, over time shifting from the old English to something a lot more simplistic as the English we know now. The French influence was so big that around a third of English words we use in the present were actually French.
