In my last post Who Else Wants A Fun Filled Future? I painted a picture of the future. Some may not realize how close this future really is. As new generations emerge, beginning with Millennials who’ve grown up with Internet access, the old world order organizations struggle to keep up with the changes needed to remain competitive and inspire this new generation in the same ways they had inspired the previous ones.

Power Structures are Changing and the Demands

Of people and the economic realities of inflation are eroding the foundations of the old world order. The underpinnings of the Internet with its lack of privacy, and trust that people place in the governments and companies who provide them access to services is betrayed by a lack of transparency, or outright negligence. The risks to the privacy of data has resulted in a growing demand for open public and decentralized solutions. This is where the trustworthiness of the protocols and platform are safeguarded against the competing self interests of these aged institutions.

While companies are doing their best to move with the times, they are also thwarted by aged regulatory frameworks, banking systems, and an Internet infrastructure that continues to place unneeded risks, and greater capital requirements in being able to penetrate and innovate in ways to better serve the demands of upcoming generations.

The joy and meaning in what current generations do is front and center, while many companies continue to ignore this.

New Generations Are More Easily Connected

By their common interests using current communication tools available to them, and do their best to navigate the encumbrances and hindrances that aged commercial interests and governments place around their social circles of choice. The demand for the unkept promise of a peer to peer Internet continues to rise, along with the need for blockchain structures that incorporates public open and decentralized standards.

New generations are not just interested in privacy and freedom, but now have more choices in how they will devote their time and energies towards their pursuits. They now have more free time than ever as AI and automation take on more laborious jobs and increase the demand for higher skills and creative needs. Their ability to access content and people of like minded interests worldwide means that they are no longer easily boxed in to the automaton like industrial age work camps that company structures today largely resemble.

Governments, Companies, and Organizations Alike are Slowly Discovering

That the needs of the coming generation will require a complete rethink in how things are done, and the way work and play are perceived. Human functional design is no longer optional, but critical to the success of any product or organization. The innovators in every sector of today are those which have wholeheartedly embraced gaming mechanics, or what has been popularized as “gamification” into how they work and interact with their workers, employees, and the most successful apps of today. While games are clearly a sector in itself, it is the power of gamification that is leading the next generation into becoming the most proficient workforce in the history of humanity.
