The misconception about Gamification

pastvsfuture.png

Gamification has never been about points, badges or rankings

(Ignorance and the media have changed that)

Even game designers would never come up with the idea of trying to save an unattractive game with points, badges, or rankings. So why should you?

Behind this myth is another myth, that humans inherently favour an easy but rewarding task over a more challenging unrewarding task.

Together, these two myths paint such a seemingly logical and understandable picture that once this is in place, hardly anyone questions it or thinks any further.

Therefore, reset your assumptions about gamification and from now on clearly separate gamification from reward programs.

Then everything will be more comprehensible and also better economically.

This is something that science (as well as the leisure and entertainment industry) has known for a long time, but the economy has successfully ignored. The reason: at first it simply seems irrational.

This can be resolved so easily. For example, in a webinar or even more precisely, in a small group. Let me know.
