ARTICLE | Top Survival Games 2018 - These are the best surviving games on the PC

in #gaming7 years ago

In these Survival games that you can play now, the fight for survival is really fun. In addition, I am presenting hope bearers with a Release 2018.

Survival means suffering, danger, eating disgusting things, not having a tight roof over your head and somehow getting through. And that's exactly what millions of PC players volunteer for. Survival games are more popular than ever and the range of matching games on Steam is accordingly large.

Many of the games, such as DayZ, have been stuck in early access for years, so they are not yet fully developed and, accordingly, are still riddled with bugs. With some you can still access without hesitation, others should rather be in the virtual shelf.

In my top list you will find the survival games, in which the fight for survival is already really fun.   This list is a personal selection intended to cover as many facets of the genre as possible and is not exhaustive.

7 Days to Die

At first glance, 7 Days to Die is a classic zombie survival game in the style of DayZ, but just like in Minecraft, the entire game world is made up of voxels and can be changed. So we're mining resources, building buildings, building food and crafting our own weapons to survive the zombie apocalypse.

As in a role-playing game, we continue to develop our character in the solo campaign and learn new skills. 7 Days to Die Although it has been in early access for ages, it is still being developed on a regular basis. Based on the alpha version, the game 2016 also appeared in a console version for PS4 and Xbox One.

However, despite the full price, there was no indication that the development of the game is still in progress, which does not throw too much light on the developers.

Ark: Survival Evolved

Dinos are just great! The giant lizards that have become rarer today are certainly one of Ark's success secrets: Survival Evolved. The good graphics based on the Unreal Engine should have attracted many players. But in the end, good gameplay is responsible for ensuring that Ark has consistently been among the most-played games on Steam since the Early Access release.

Alone or with your tribe, you fight for survival on an island world where dinosaurs have not yet died out. You can hunt and even tame the lizards, but you also quickly become the victim of a hungry predatory dinosaur. Regular patches like the Tek update provide the game with new content.

With aberration, a paid expansion has also been released. Shortly before the release, the Mod Ragnarok was added to the game as an official expansion. But you do not have to resort to paid content to get even more fun out of Ark.

Subnautica

Resource gathering? Check. Build buildings and tools? Check. Survive monster attacks? Check. Subnautica confidently picks up all the points on the must-have list for survival games, but also offers something else: a unique setting. Instead of fighting in the fresh air for survival, we make it under water.

Forcibly, because our spaceship crashed on an alien planet that was completely flooded by an ocean. Consequently, we need to worry less about our water supply than about having enough air to breathe in our compressed air bottles.

The further we improve our diving equipment, the deeper we dive into the depths of the alien sea. Later, we even build whole submarines. The underwater world is so colorful, twisted and beautifully designed that we can fully live out our exploration instinct.

Escape from Tarkov

If I am honest, Escape from Tarkov is not a real survival game. At the very least, we do not have to survive with our character in a persistent game world and we do not have to worry about a hiding place.   Instead, we venture individual expeditions to the war-torn city of Tarkov to search for weapons and equipment before leaving the area through an exit.

At such instanced "raids" up to 12 players take part at the same time. Whether they shoot each other or ally against the AI opponents who are also on the map is up to them. Escape from Tarkov is a hardcore shooter that puts a lot of emphasis on realistic weapon behavior.

Also, just a few hits are enough to make our character die virtual death. Then we lose all equipment with which we started in a mission. In addition to a story mode, there should also be a free roam mode on a large map for up to 64 players.

Currently, Escape from Tarkov is in a closed beta.

The Long Dark

The Long Dark's biggest figurehead is not complete yet: A campaign with top-notch speakers like Jennifer Hale (Commander Shepard in Mass Effect) and David Hayter (Solid Snake in Metal Gear Solid) surviving in an icy, post-apocalyptic wasteland addressed.

As with the Telltale Adventures, the story mode appears in several parts. Episodes one and two are already there, but three more episodes are still coming. The developer Hinterland does not yet specify an exact release date. But that does not mean that The Long Dark does not have much to offer right now.

The sandbox mode has been massively expanded and improved since the start of the early access phase. Our character starts at a random point in the world, and as soon as he puts a foot to the door, it quickly becomes clear that the climate is the biggest enemy in the game. Sure, against wolves and bears we have to defend ourselves, but fighting plays a minor role.

The Long Dark is first and foremost an atmospheric survival experience. The deadly ice is pictorially staged and the loneliness presses in the long run quite nicely on the mood. That's why you're happy about every fire you get lit, every day you survive, and every woolen hat you can get in some frozen drawer.

If you are looking for entertainment for a leisurely, snowy Sunday, there is absolutely nothing wrong here.
