The Overwatch League - A Short Insight

A Fantastic Start

At the very opening of the inaugural season, the Overwatch League did significantly better than most of the community predicted. A large portion of the high-level community all had their doubts, doubts towards the Blizzard developers and towards stable viewerships numbers; nobody ever expected the viewership actually pulled at turnout. Hundreds of thousands of people were present on Twitch during the prime time, peaking approximately around 300,000-500,000. It was absolutely incredible. I'm just itching with anticipation for what the first stage finals could hold for us.

Finding a Core Audience

Now, several weeks into the season, although the viewership cannot be compared to the very first day, the league has built a rather solid core base of approximately 80,000-150,000 viewers; the numbers varying widely depending on which teams were playing at any given time. This is extremely good, especially considering they're maintaining these numbers on a weekly basis and vastly outstripping so many other games. It can even be comparable with League of Legends LCS, a league with a long history and monstrous following, at this point

The Road Ahead

With the recent opening of the first signing window, the first trade window soon upon us, and the league's first stage finals coming up in just over a week now with a whopping $125,000 on the line, all we can do is wait to see what the future holds for the league. With an influx of new talent and others aspiring to participating in the league, or on the Path to Pro, I'm only expecting things to go up from here.
