My inner child is going crazy. Overnight, Nintendo has announced the release of the Nintendo Classic Mini: Super Nintendo Entertainment System. The fan favourite will be preloaded with 21 games and come with two controllers so you can pretend you’re a child again with a friend as soon as you open the box. This nostalgic system is primed to be released on Australian shores on September 30 with a suggested retail price of $119.95. If you couldn’t get your hands on the NES Classic, this is one you’re going to climb pixelated mountains for.
The 21 games coming with the SNES Classic are nostalgia personified. Check out the full list (in no specific order):
Super Mario World
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
Super Metroid
Street Fighter 2 Turbo: Hyper Fighting
Super Castlevania IV
Mega Man X
Final Fantasy III
Star Fox
Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars
Secret of Mana
Super Mario Kart
F-Zero
Star Fox 2
Super Punch Out
Donkey Kong Country
Kirby Super Star
Kirby’s Dream Course
Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island
Contra III: The Alien Wars
EarthBound
Super Ghouls ‘n Ghosts
Value for money is found with the inclusion of the massive RPG’s such as EarthBound, Final Fantasy III and Secret of Mana. These games are well-renowned and will take quite some time to beat. What is interesting about the list of star-studded games is Star Fox 2. The sequel to Star Fox was never released and will be playable for the first time ever on the SNES Classic Mini.
Hardware included in the box is a HDMI cable, a USB power cable (which will require you to purchase the USB AC Adapter that is going to be sold separately), two wired controllers and the SNES Classic system.
Did you have difficulty getting your hands on the NES Classic? Nintendo have made a statement that they will be producing significantly more units than the NES Classic. However, at this time they only have releases planned for 2017. The NES Classic was discontinued very quickly even with its high demand. It’s also important to note that Australia looks to be getting the ‘nicer’ looking version of the SNES (US version on the right).
This system is where gaming started for a LOT of gamers, including myself. In my opinion, this is a much better release than the NES Classic. I am incredibly excited about Donkey Kong Country, the amount of times I have tried to speed run this game and failed is embarrassing. Do yourself a favour and go and pre-order this guy, would you?
