Making daily progress in the garden despite health problems worsening

in #gardenlast month

My vision is going downhill rapidly and I can barely use the computer anymore, but it might be a side effect of my heart medication, and if my heart surgery goes well, I won't have to take that medication anymore. In other words, maybe the vision loss is temporary! That would be good, considering all the other serious health problems I'm going through lately. Regardless, I've managed to put in another day's work (which for me is about 2 hours) in the garden, continuing the daily progress I've been making! Here's today's photo:

Yesterday I planted snow peas, green leaf lettuce, and carrots. Today, I planted shelling peas, romaine lettuce, and green onions!

Like I said yesterday, it's pretty early in the year for planting. Many people don't plant outdoors until late May, especially way up here in Northern Canada. But I'm feeling adventurous, and I have a hunch they're going to blast us with an early/long/smoky Summer again this year. So I'm planting 2 months early! I have some spare seeds if these ones get taken by a late frost.

When I first started posting regularly on YouTube in 2009, gardening and self-sufficiency was one of the first topics I covered. And I've been talking about it ever since!

With everything happening in the world right now, I couldn't be happier about having a backyard garden, along with the tools and skills to manage it. I have seeds with the genetics of plants I'm familiar with growing, and that I know will do well in this region. There's good soil here, and if the rain doesn't come, I'll keep things green with my hose. I'm confident I will be able to generate some top-notch fresh organic produce here over the next 7 months! If my health doesn't hold out, at least I've created the garden itself, and already put in several rows of food crops. I look forward to getting all my Spring seeds into the ground over the next week.

Grow in peace.
