Spines farm

Isn't this a lovely view...
A bunch of tiny, spiky babies growing all together. Like a little lawn of green little balls :)

Notocactus mueller-melchersii

But it is not all candies when growing them from seed. It is multiple repoting every time they grow a bit to a larger and deeper pot. Not too big, cause they don't like that either. A rule of thumb say to keep the gaps between them of their own size. When they start touching each other, you repot them again leaving a gap of between the same as their size... and so on. Until they are big enough to put them their own separate pot leaving 1-2 cm space around.
So yea... it is lots of repoting, lots of spines puled from fingers and lots of dead cacti in the meantime.

Those look pretty good though. And they seem to be one of the toughest cookies! Those are babies of Notocactus mueller-melchersii also called Parodia mueller-melchersii. Here they are almost one year old and still not even close to 1 cm in diameter. Still some time until I see the flowers.

And all together with two other Notocactus types on both sides.

In the photo they are quite peaceful, but it’s better not to touch them :D

While they are small they are harmless. The spines are soft. But next year... hmm

My friend convinced her cactus that she loved him.
As a result, the cactus dropped its thorns.
It was :D

Is the cactus still alive? :p

they reciprocate each other :р

I really wonder, why you need them in such quantaties?
do you plan to change your local place, turn all the mossy-lichen environment into a cacti desert?..

I don't :P
But I had lots of seeds, so I sowed them all. Otherwise they would be wasted. Besides lots of babies die before they actually reach blooming size. Those are super resilient to any treatment though. I will have lots to give away...

a! got it.
