I am sorry this post has had so many edits, it almost feels like the edits are perpetual at this point 😅. But this is a blockchain so I think we all love perpetuity (to some extent at least).
I ultimately want to leave Hive on a positive note.
People might be wondering why I would leave, and I honestly just don’t have the energy to be in this 100% right now.
I am an all or nothing kind of guy. It’s just how I am, I know that is hard for some people but it is what it is.
I only came to Hive originally because of Splinterlands.
I don’t want to diminish anyone’s work here but also I don’t really know who certain people are that are influential in the ecosystem.
Like I am pretty out of the loop on a lot of things and it’s really confusing.
I personally think Hive has a lot of potential in terms of price appreciation. Like it really wouldn’t take much for Hive to take off. But something does need to change for that to happen imo.
I think if people here want the price to go up, they need to do things with Hive price in mind.
It doesn’t even need to be some fancy analysis or anything. Like you can do something simple with DHF proposals like “what is the payback period?”
And then start funding projects that will lead to people buying more Hive than the proposal costs.
Like I think Hive is close to actualizing its potential. But I don’t know what close is. Is that a year? Is it 2 years? I really have no idea.
Like if you are going to invest in Hive today, I strongly recommend making good posts and curating with the ecosystem in mind.
I have been pushing myself to write as much as possible because I think that’s a big part of investing in here. You get rewards if you post and if you curate which is pretty cool.
The reward pool is almost like Patreon but you can reward followers that engage with you which is pretty cool.
Ultimately, being a whale on Hive is freakin awesome. Like it’s pretty epic. It’s epic to have a big upvote and it’s pretty epic to be a stakeholder and influence things.
I personally am not attracted to Power though and that is the thing that bothers me the most about Hive. Like I wish I could buy Hive and do things without it being a big deal.
The way Hive is setup, I do have choices. Like I don’t need to powerdown. I could just delegate to curators that pay out liquid Hive.
But the more I thought about it, the more I don’t want to do that.
I want to leave Hive better than when I first joined it.
There is nothing wrong with delegating to curators imo. I think that is a pretty cool service. But that is not the route I want to take.
And there is another problem, I have a rule when investing which is to not get emotionally invested in my trades.
I failed miserably at following this rule when I invested in Hive.
I am way too emotionally invested in Hive and it’s messing with my thought process.
I am not big on single factor analysis. I do not make decisions based on singular events.
I have written and deleted different versions of this post so many times.
It’s really hard for me personally to document my thought process and communicate it in a way that makes sense to other people.
I think everyone is “weird” to some extent. I think some people are better at acting “normal” than other people.
One thing I don’t like about Hive is everything is in text. Like if I say something and change my mind later people could infer that as I’m being dishonest and I really don’t want it to be interpreted that way.
Also, sometimes I am being sarcastic or trying to be funny and because it’s text it is confusing.
Like if I was able to say all these things with words or be in person it would be a lot easier for me to communicate.
I think the standard that no one is allowed to change their mind should not be pushed on people.
2025 was a really hard year for me personally. Frankly, I still am having a hard time with everything that happened to me in 2025. And honestly the bad stuff that happened is not Hive related.
Sure some bad things happened to me on Hive. I think that’s life though, bad things happen sometimes because life is not just sunshine and rainbows.
One thing I am particularly good at is looking towards the future and thinking through all the possibilities.
I think there are a lot of different ways Hive can be “successful” in terms of price action.
I do think Hive price is important too. The price of Hive does communicate things even if people don’t want it to communicate anything.
I really think people can do a lot of good here by taking a step back and asking simple questions.
There are a lot of people on Hive today that could buy more Hive if they wanted to.
Like yea onboarding is important, but also you have people on the platform today that should be presented with why they should buy more Hive.
I think that’s an important question to ask ourselves on Hive.
What things need to change to convince the people who are already here to double down?
I think the answer to that question is worth a lot of money.
I was presented with a bit of a crossroads moment here recently.
I wanted to start buying more Hive because I wanted to effectuate change. But also I don’t want to have more power here.
So I’m in a bit of a conundrum.
Recently I realized there are a lot of people here that I really don’t know who they are. I have been here, to what I consider, a long time.
I have been here a lot longer than I ever thought I would be.
Hive is a lot of things to the point it’s pretty unbelievable.
I think the amount of Hive someone owns should mostly be based on the role they want to have in the ecosystem.
I want to have a different role than I do right now.
Hive is like owning a piece of open source software.
Hive is a creative sandbox where you can do a lot of cool things if you have a lot of HP.
You can build communities. You can interact with people who run proposals and give them feedback.
Hive is kind of like owning equity in a business but also it’s not; at best it’s pretty confusing.
Ultimately I think if people come to Hive, their goal should be to leave Hive better than when they came to it in the first place.
Obviously not everyone is going to do that but I still think it’s a good goal.
I think if anything my presence on Hive has proved that Hive works. If you have a lot of HP you have more influence and that is pretty dam interesting.
I still believe Hive is under valued. But I have opportunity costs like everyone else and I really do want to invest in other things.
I think people should be able to buy or sell Hive without it communicating anything.
Like I have a lot of reasons for me personally to powerdown.
But my reasons are my own and other people are going to have other reasons for why they do things.
I really think everyone should have their own investment thesis. If something happens that changes the thesis and you want to adjust, I think that’s reasonable.
Long story short, I have a lot of reasons for my decision.
I have really enjoyed my time on Hive, I think Hive is a wonderful place when people work together and do things for the right reasons.
I want people on Hive to be successful. I want Hive to be successful.
I will always have good things to say about this place. I will always have good things to say about the people I met here.
I never really planned on getting this involved in Hive. It has been one hell of a journey to the point it doesn’t even feel real.
All I can do at this point is to tell everyone here thank you.

Honestly this is both sad aswell as a little expected. Yesterday something happened that felt like a huge red flag and while I was hoping the community to step up and deal with it in a way that would allow us to move forward, as the discussion unfolted and support on the proposal grew it left me reconsidering myself aswell.

Just seeing support has tripled since last night. This thing might really get funded.
Many more likely will follow, why not! DHF slush fund is here. I have been seeing red flags for a while and powered down 40K HP when we pumped to .68 14 months back. I just knew it would only get worse. But I wish I had been wrong! I’m powering down my little 4K stake I had left, just as protest. I got my original investment out in 2021 so it’s house money, but I just symbolically am powering my few thousand left. Maybe I’ll buy back at a penny for giggles. This is just a line crossed that gives me strong confidence in things getting much worse.
It got a lot of support really fast. I was lost for words.
But yea that's why I started my power down and got this post out ASAP.

Well, see is a little cycle that makes this place uninhabitable mostly. Maggi can be a thing + the free transacions of Hive. But the social part is controlled by a little group of people. I did power up yesterday my liquid hive that was planned to flip at some point, but not for pennies lmao. I wait what happens to other projects. And well thats not the worst part of DAO waste. the 10k for claude subs ( there are cheaper AI tools that are very good, the rally car, the movie ( that is closed source paid by community) and so on.

Although I don't agree with the proposal getting funded, I really think it is a one-off scenerio, as she has kinda been the face of Hive you might say. I feel no one else would have any hope of getting a similar proposal funded. That would be my bet. Really don’t want to see you pack up and leave, I feel you may regret it in the near future. If you look at my comments on the proposal, I was conflicted; I mean dam, I am still conflicted lol. I basically agree with it and don't agree with it at the same time. It is like I just got split into 2 and now I am in 2 different realities at the same time.

Personally, I agree with all the reasons for not voting in favor of the proposal, and I didn't want to vote for it, but in the end, what carried the most weight was that no one is willing to do the essential work that Crim does, and this is precisely the moment when it is needed most.

Hey Hurt. As you might know, I've been around here almost a decade. In that time, I've seen countless people come and go. Some of the biggest proponents of this blockchain, some of the biggest preachers, are now gone.
I've learnt to accept this as just how life works.
I'll tell you a story, if you don't mind.
I was 20 years old (26 years ago.. wow) and I had began working for Mcdonalds. My boss saw potential in me, and sent me to Management classes. I was to become a Storage Manager one day, she said. The classes were pretty far from where I lived, it would take me 3 hours on my bike to make it to them, but I did, for one whole week.
The Store were the classes were happening was hosting about 20 potential candidates. Different ages, different backgrounds. It didn't take long before I befriended some of them, and particularly got along great with a candidate who lived in Tucson. I lived in Glendale Arizona at the time.
We became fast friends, laughed all the time, and shared anecdotes about girls and all. The fifth day came about, we got our diploma, and I said to my new friend. Hey, we should stay in touch. Somehow he had wisdom that was beyond his age, because he said: Its ok dude, we don't have to. We will never see each other again, and that's fine.
I was resentful when I heard him say those words. I thought he had faked our new friendship for some reason I could not calculate. But now that I'm an older man with a white beard, I see his point.
Nothing can be forced, nothing should be forced. People and their situations are unique. The stories we tell ourselves are just as important as the stories we tell others.

It’s always good to rethink an investment thesis when something fundamentally changes.
I am not saying people should copy me or do what I do.
You should make your own decisions based on your own investment thesis.

I lose money in investing all the time. I make more money than I lose, that should be the goal.
Opportunity costs are a thing. If I find a better opportunity somewhere else and want to sell Hive to invest in that opportunity then I will do that.
I am not going to leverage my stake to get people to change what they do.
I really do not want to get into the details of why I am making this decision.
It is ok if people exit. It is ok if people buy in. These things will always happen.
Make your own decision based on your own thesis.

Man, that was a hard blow this morning when I saw your post. Really. It sucks that one by one people are leaving Hive or get silent. Really sad. And as short as I got to know you my impression was your are a good guy. The TradFi Community was a light of hope in the past months.
I agree with you, for me Tradfi was a place where I felt supported and valued, it's the only community where my posts went over $1 hehehe I'll miss that.

I actually am surprised you've decided to leave, but it's understandable. I think a lot of people are probably in the same situation even if they haven't actually verbalised it. I am loving building for Hive, but I am not gonna lie, seeing the community make stupid decisions that do nothing to help the Hive price is demoralising for me at the same time. Even though I don't have a big stake in Hive, I've been making a conscious effort to buy $200 or so of Hive per month. I also power up all of the rewards I earn from votes on my posts and whatnot too. Right now I don't think I'll power up my exchange purchased Hive, but I feel like the small gesture of buying Hive with the intention of using it to fund new app ideas, etc also helps.
My goal is to keep making fun games, but also build apps that make people feel valued in the community even if they don't have massive amounts of Hive or stake. Not necessarily charity, but apps that maybe help people feel more valued and appreciated, supported who might not have the opportunity to ever benefit from the DHF (which has become a good old boys country club).
Have you considered with your powered down Hive becoming a VC of sorts on Hive or are you completely out? What I mean is you find projects or people you believe in and maybe you partner with them to see if you can build something together with the intention of not only growing Hive but also getting an eventual return on your investment (if that's even possible on Hive).
Whatever you end up doing, I hope it makes you happy and I feel like you'll inevitably find your way back, even if it's not in a position of power and it's just to be down in the trenches with the rest of us lowly plebs.

Ohh! Random thing I wanted to mention to you in particular since you made a post about BITO in TradFi.
OILK does the same thing but for Oil Futures. That ETF is also managed by ProShares.
OILK is no where near like BITO though because Bitcoin volatility is pretty random vs oil volatility is mostly based on macro economic events. (Oil can have long periods of no volatility and it can randomly dump in price if there is a bunch of Oil pushed back into the marketplace).
Either way I thought you might think it’s interesting because you understand how BITO works.

Whatever discouraged you, I completely understand and I hope you do great in any other project or activity you undertake from now on.
For several weeks now I've also been thinking about everything that's happening in Hive, and I even wrote a post talking about how we shouldn't be completely dependent on a single platform or ecosystem. Independence is subjective, yes, but financially it is possible if you have a clear vision of what you want to do with your life. You can have your own business, your own platform, or even your own cryptocurrency, but every dream must be pursued without depending 100% on things. Not from the platforms, not from the ecosystems, not from the people, from nothing.
Achieving that kind of independence isn't easy, and it's much harder if you lack the necessary resources, but if you've accomplished anything in all these years on Hive, I know you can achieve something truly remarkable, wherever it may be.

the thing is hive is kind of a moral project from many stakeholders, I think many of them, myself included, would rather let it drop lower than try and "trick" others to buy into it - although I'm sure you didn't mean it like that. But that is kind of the general theme with crypto, you're just trying to bring in people under you to sell tokens to them for higher than you bought. Many here don't wanna give a false sense of hopium to people and they know how much of the crypto sphere is full of smokes and mirror.
The attention economy can't really bloom until we hit bigger userbase numbers, that's just how things are with social media.
I don't disagree that we should be more careful, but being able to reward people the way we can do on hive is not something we'll be able to find anywhere else, if you're using hive correctly that is. And I personally like it that way, even if many turn out to backstab or disappoint you over time and cheat/scam/leave. Some stay and there's room for them to grow for a few more years until things get a lot harder inflation wise.

The hive is at a point where, from what I can see, there's no turning back, but that's just how it is—everything is wonderful long enough to become incredible
I don't want to drag this out so yea I made this decision.
I wanted to do my best when investing in Hive and I gave it my all.
I always try my hardest when doing new things so at least I know if I fail I can look back and have no regrets because I did everything I could.
I don't think I failed in this case but it's just time for me to pivot.

I am going to keep the TradFi Curator going too but I need to think about who I’m going to hand that thing off to.
I'm not going to lie. Just yesterday I bought 6 WorkerBee mining tokens to mine Bee.
Since solo mining is difficult with few miners, I discovered that ph1102 manages a mining pool. So I'm working on that. Seeing the Bee inflation, which I think only issues 10 tokens per hour, I'm looking into that. I'll try to gradually increase the number of miners. But I need to find out more about these things. Game tokens are constantly devaluing, so I want to reinvest in something I enjoy. That way, when the games die, I won't be left with just the losses.
Yea I think play 2 earn is a hard thing to build economics around.
Maybe if the play 2 earn was like solving puzzles and researchers were paying for that data and that money for the research was going towards buying the token that might work.
The miners are interesting though. I’m not sure what the economics are behind workerbee so I can’t really speak to that.
I hope you find things you enjoy on here. It will be interesting to see what they do with Magi and what opportunities that creates for the chain.

They have a nice dividend too. Looks like they use most of their operational cash flow to fund the dividend.

I’ve been on the platform since January 2022 but only started to do a big power up fairly recently.
I was going to start DCAing more but then that means I would have more power and I already have more power than I’m comfortable with.
I did my best. I gave it my all. But also this has been kind of stressing me out LOL.
I want to invest in things that are less stressful for me personally.
I’m not selling all my Hive. I have some curation accounts I need to figure out what I’m going to do with.
I’m not really big into single factor analysis. So my decision isn’t basic.
I doubt I’m going to rotate into Bitcoin. I mostly mess with stocks so will probably just do that…. Or I’m going to pay off my car 😅!
If you want to invest in things that cause you less stress, you should ask Mr. Trump for the list of countries he plans to bomb. After Iran, he's already said Cuba is next.
Playing off your car sounds like a great investment in this uncertain markets. That is a major risk reduction and has a guaranteed return.
Stocks have higher upside, but also risk. I have a feeling we might see a huge bear market end of this year if the mess continues and if Republicans loose the mid term elections.
Yea I am mostly trying to pay stuff off right now. Sounds weird to call paying stuff an investment but yea in this case it kind of is lol.
Stock market does have a lot of uncertainty right now so I’m not really sure what I’m going to invest in.
I try not to factor politics into my investment decisions but it does have an impact sometimes.

I am not making any investment decisions based on my political views, which I have not stated here. But there is a concept of Political Risk which I definitely factor into my investment decisions. And I feel that markets hate unpredictability which has increased recently in America. I kind of like when Federal government is predictably deadlocked and doing almost nothing...

I have been pleasantly surprised with all the positive comments from folks.
Because I have gotten so much positive comments I want to update this post and make it better.

It seems that Hive has that effect in people giving a lot of hope and a skin in the game, but almost always it keeps on letting people down because it is poorly run, the price is not in the mind of the people having the power to grow it, and it is obvious from what proposals are getting funded and how the DHF money is being used. But we Hive deserve to sink along with the ship. I am waiting to experience a Titanic kind of moment here.

I’m not convinced it’s that bad. We could have some type of moment like that but I’m just not convinced it is very likely.
My biggest issue is I don’t like being involved in governance.

It's not that simple, theoretically you need someone to like you to earn rewards on your posts, and that person needs to have hive power, so just posting won't guarantee you'll earn anything... And those who vote have to understand that each wrong vote will be diluted in the value of their own hive power stake.

On the DHF drama, to some extent there will always be drama when a DHF proposal is made. People are naturally going to be very passionate about how those funds are spent. Also, some people are going to troll and because it is the internet it is kind of hard to tell who is being serious and who is trolling sometimes.

What a Goodbye Post, Hurt! I can relate to quite some things ypu wrote about: life being hard sonetimes, Hive being a great place to be, the choices you have to make in order to stay focussed. Just to name a few.
I think you are a great guy and I liked how you built up TradFi community to make a change. Came in only a few months ago vy chance but enjoyed it a lot since then.

I am a firm believer that good things can still come to Hive.
Having HP does matter here. I think the way the activity changed on my account after I powered up a lot proves Hive still works.
I was honestly expecting a lot more negative reactions so I'm blown away by the comments on this post.
