AS NEWS FROM A DISTANT LAND SO IS RAIN TO THE THIRSTY EARTH

RAIN after nearly five years of drought!! And lots of it!! HALLELUYAH! Never before has this Proverb been more real: as news from a distant land, so is rain to the thirsty earth. Our initial years homesteading this is what our home sweet homestead looked like:

Goshna 029.JPG

Our flocks of my dairy goats and the sheep were substantial and they were spoiled for choice. There were fields of almost waste deep alfalfa as well as lush mountains to range on. Then we had a flood which denuded all our topsoil. Washed away many boundary lines and drowned huge portions of fields. We were blessed to not sustain loss of livestock though many farmers did. Following the terrible flood, in our semi desert area, came a severe drought and our green paradise was replaced by this:

Over the years, as many of you know, we were forced to sell the majority of my precious goats, the sheep and our growing cattle. We also gave up many of the vegetable gardens and learned to be even more frugal with water. Grey water was directed to the fruit trees and gardens. We sunk a far deeper borehole and what water it pumped watered two very small fields which barely kept the dozen sheep and my 8 goats alive. We relied on rain water and prayed for the rain....

A month ago we danced in the barren fields as the heavens opened! 50mm fell!! Our waterfall ran for the first time in years. The dirt roads ran rivers, our homestead was soaked and overnight, the countryside sang with hope! Life had returned and the drought, we hope, has been broken!!

Our farming community rely largely on flood irrigation. Understandably this means that many farmers in the recent years have lost everything as the huge dam has been dry with no sign of rain. Twice since the rain we have flood irrigated.

And this weekend another wonderful 25mm of life giving rain has fallen. We expect to flood irrigate again next week.

It is truly a wonderous thing to watch your toddler splashing in pools of rain water while your over 70 year old mother in law spins around barefoot in the rain! Our little oasis is now an explosion of vibrant green speckled with patches of white where the happy goats and sheep once again roam. We are so grateful for this gift from Heaven. How true it is that you only truly appreciate a thing once you have lived without it!

While I'm trying to make up for lost time, my usual Steemit posting of last year will not be nearly as regular. To find out where I've been - or rather why I've been absent the recent months peep at this post:

I'm actually so happy for you I feel like I want to cry. You know we get drought here too so I totally know where this excitement about rain is coming from. It must be so wonderful to see all that rain.

Thank you so much @homesteaderscoop. I know you have mentioned the drought there too @riverflows

Looks lovely, those animals are seemingly enjoying it the most, good sights all over

Absolutely! Although the rain was a big shock for the younger ones who had never experienced it before @hananali

Happens when you are anything for the first time but I don't think the little ones would mind it anymore

Another wonderful news @buckaroo.. I feel so happy to see all those green and happy creatures on your farm 😍 as if the nature are supporting you too

It is wonderful to watch the world coming alive again after so long @cicisaja!

Praise YHWH for the rain. It is amazing how reliant we are on the rain as farmers. So happy for you

What a GLORIOUS & HOPE drenched (pun intended!) post @buckaroo !! 🌧🌧🌧

Lovely to see you back in my feed... @ecotrain has missed you! Sending love from uber hot & dry northern Thailand, where we await the first of the season's rains & peer at every cloud anxiously.

What a sweet comment @artemislives. It has been wierd being away for so long

And now you're back. All is well.

Hallelujah indeed!!! Party time at buckaroo ranch!

Well, rain is life! I'm glad for you. It's a sign of climate changing, one good this time

it sounds like the rain was very welcome then :-)

Im glad to see you back on steem. you were missing in action for a while and we were looking for you last week.

I have some good news for you. we are running a campaign to get 250 new minnows on steem in a month. You can read about the project in this latest update.
https://steemit.com/steem/@steemcommunity/250-new-minnows-event-update-and-list-of-accounts-to-support

We would love you to be part of this however we do have some criteria. You must want to earn Minnow status and hold it ( thats 500+SP) and that you would be dedicated to powering up all post earning during this event.
So if you want to opt in, please do a post stating the above critera and that you are committed to them. Use the #tenkminnows tag, and then also tag me and @steemcommunity

I look forward to hearing from you

Thank you for the warm welcome @paulag. I had two other steemians contact me last week about the campaign. What a fantastic community effort! So who do I tag? One was new to me another has been supportive, and I've appreciated your Redfish project. So not sure if it matters which of you get tagged?

Doesnt matter at all who you tag, once you also include #tenkminnows. The team is awesome and we are working hard to help as many accounts as we can.

Ok. Thank you

Hallelujah indeed! How beautiful that life giving water is. Fingers crossed that there is more to come.

The Bible tells us that rain is a blessing, let the blessings continue to fall for you all!!

Indeed @simms50! That has been my concern the past years of drought. Rain is a blessing. Rain withheld is a curse and this country and people have much to repent of

Seems like it should be just a matter of time here in the US!

Great to see you back on the block !

And good to see the rains returning for you.

Thank you for the welcome @pennsif. I won't be posting regularly but it's nice to be back

That's wonderful news! I hope there is more rain to come!

Oooooo! Another goatie lover. Thank you for your comment @goat-girlz

I am really glad for you!!!
Same thing here! After 3 years of drought, this winter we had the biggest rainfall for decades!
There is hope after all :)

Thanks @heatherthebard. Such a blessing

I am sorry I missed your post, but I didn't expect you to post anything since the last news. Nevertheless, I ma very happy for you and your land, this is truly a blessing and I wish you all the best in the future as well. No more drought!!!

It is really great that you finally got some decent rain! How has it been since this post? Did you get more or is it drying out again?

Just thinking about you earlier, figured I'd check in. Hope that all is well.

Thanks @papa-pepper. Thought my brother @craigcryptoking may be exciting the masses to rebellion about my neglect of Steemit!! I have severe permanent "morning sickness" and two months to go until Baby Buckaroo is born so coping with the real world and not focused on cyber city ;)
