Introduction
Steemit In Nigeria is a Nigerian event aimed at creating mass awareness about the steem/steemit possibility. The project started more than three months ago as a project to contribute back to the steemsphere,
The idea of the event which existed as far back as May 2017, was the first proposed mega meet up of new and aspiring steemians and steem users in Nigeria. The idea quickly moved from simply being an idea to becoming a planned event.
The event being the first of it's kind of that magnitude in Nigeria of course not neglecting a humble meet up previously held by a Nigerian steemian who was also on the platform. The main objective behind it was to fix the con of so many meet ups, which was the cost.
In a country like Nigeria, every cent counts and holding meet ups to solely celebrate steemians existing in a geographical location was not technically helping to increase the population here, it was spending money that could be given to charity, hence the idea for an event that actually targets everyone not only pre-existing steemians.
Activity report
Since it's inception three months ago, the build up to the event has been slowly gathering momentum, although there is always room for more.
As a person of forward momentum and inclined to follow protocols, I immediately sought consult from some notable steemians, and I still seek consult from them.
I was honored by @andrarchy who gave me a link to a post on the proper crowd sourcing protocols and I am forever grateful. It turns out there are two stages before a successful growth project idea is considered. The professionalism in which @andrarchy exhibited when explaining, gave me another boost that we could move forward.
The growth-ideas post for the event was received warmly with an initial potential outcome of $1,000+, and over a hundred votes, which later dropped to about $700+ due to the falling price of steem.
Moving on to the second tag stage which was the proposal, the initial request turn out was low which was also due to the price of steem, I had to rewrite the proposal again with just a slightly higher turn out, I am grateful for the effort.
Since that time, we had to launch a lot of side projects which were meant to ensure the success of the Steemit In Nigeria event. @ehiboss in conjunction with @gloglo, @illuminatus, @jade56, launched a sticker campaign to put a steemit sticker in every door in student's hostels as well as stickers on the windscreen of volunteer commercial and private vehicles to commence by month's end. @gbenga also launched a steemit virus campaign to help gather chatter for the event as well as sign new members. Talk about a two in one package.
@ehiboss in conjunction with @ogoowinner, started a steemit whatsapp group, which although coincided with our curation journey, also helps to begin grooming the next generation of above average steemians.
@leczy came up with this new design for the flyers specification after the previous design by @destinysaid. @destinysaid did a steemgig for people to come up with potential designs for the event and @purplerabbit responded swiftly.
@ehiboss is planning on setting up a steemgig for video concepts for the event.
After my chat with @donkeypong yesterday, I realized the need to restructure the budget for the event, tailored to suit the current steemit ecosystem.
A discord group was created to make communication easier and anticipate everyone.
The Team
There are also some individuals who are not yet on steemit that are also working with us.
The importance/aim of the event
The event aims at creating blogging employment for millions of Nigerians through steemit and allowing the exponential growth of the community.
An internet usage in a country like Nigeria will definitely put steemit.com in the top 100 sites in the shortest possible time.
A good and active user base could be a major boost on the direction of $4 to 1 steem before this year runs out.
A facebook and youtube like community which pays you for your words becomes possible numerically with this event
The event also aims at fostering healthy interaction among people, and a chance to show creativity in various walks of life.
Vision of the event
A decentralized Nigeria which speaks the steemit language using the steem tongue. A future where in population of over 100 million people, steemit/steem will be a 1 in 3 Nigerian thing before two years and a 1 in 2 Nigerian thing before three years.
A future where instead of @gavvet's analysis to say "one of the fastest growing regions, it will say the fastest growing region."
Eradicating, crime and poverty through the proceeds from their decent earning from steemit and possibly in the nearest future, a steem ATM card for Nigerians. Imagine not having the need to convert to bitcoin before you can spend, imagine a future where other cryptos have to be converted to steem before they can be useful, that is my vision.
Cost
Truth be told, the initial cost of planning the program was high but affordable, but @donkeypong and some other people plus my intuition realizes the state the steem ecosystem is in right now, so need for quality, feasibility and affordability, becomes the bone of contention.
The original budget was scaled to $3,500 (not checked for inflation) and $4,500 (with inflation). Of course, the changes in the budget equals a resultant change in the structure of the event.
Thank you for the detailed report @ehiboss. I will bookmark your post and apply some of your strategies in spreading steemit gospel here in South Africa. I fully support your project in Nigeria. God bless you guys.
Feel free, thank you.
Just keep going, your steps today will be rewarded soon. Probably this could be the solution of rising poverty in your beloved country. Even I am not Nigerian, I support this project. Godspeed.
The team's effort, I hope it is rewarded
I am with you bro. Lets steem on. I am already using steem as name of currency at a local restaurant and the food seller was like "ki lo shele gan gan" lol
lol, that is the spirit
yeah bro
Wow. The concept of the gospel of Steemit in Nigeria is an awesome one. But I noticed that most of the schools being mentioned here are western schools.
I am currently in the east schooling. Enugu to be precise and kinda new in the platform, but I'm looking at making the whole idea of Steemit go viral in school. This will require encouragement from you guys well grounded in the platform.
The amount of student that knows about it in this school is almost below 1 percent.
Please your response will be appreciated. Thanks
Dont worry, you too can start up something wherever you are. It's said, it takes one man to start a village(local talk).
Get some flyers printed out, i can help with that, go out get some of your fellow steemians and do some publicity.
The reason why we decided on the west is because its a familiar surrounding and it has the facilities and people we need and know.
Ok. No problem. I will see what i will do about that
