Could the answer to crime be in arming everyone?
This is what a Georgia town did 30 years ago and it has one of the lowest crime rates in the country. This really have the mainstream organizations that cover the gun control debate perplexed. CNN took a look at the issue and were impressed at the low crime rate. They felt the results could not definitively be attributed to the forced gun ownership.

When it comes to America’s response to gun crime, one Georgia town has been thinking outside the box since 1982, when its leaders passed a law requiring it citizens to own a firearm.
The Kennesaw, Georgia, law states that “every head of household residing in the city limits is required to maintain a firearm,” according to CNN, and was reportedly passed as a deterrent to crime
“It was meant to be kind of a crime deterrent,” Kennesaw Police Lt. Craig Graydon, a 30-year law enforcement veteran, told CNN. “It was also more or less a political statement because the city of Morton Grove, Illinois, passed a city ordinance banning handguns from their city limits.”
As for would-be criminals looking for an easy mark, judging by the crime statistics it seems most have bypassed the Georgia town and moved on to easier targets. Even CNN was forced to admit that Kennesaw, populated by 33,000 people, has only had “one murder in the last six years and a violent crime rate of below 2%.”
“But,” writes CNN, “it’s unclear whether that has anything to do with the gun law.”

The bias of CNN is palpable and vomit inducing
I have said this for years.
If you want to end crime, at least violent crime, arm everyone. I mean who is going to rob a bank if every customer and teller pulls out a gun and aims it at you?
It appears that nuclear armaments have not have negated each other when both sides have one....same with guns...if all have them, then we will see the advantage the criminals have disappear.
Exactly why i Love living in Nevada.... who wants to rob a supermarket knowing there are probably 5 to 10 men and women shopping with their carry permits. lol
True.. arming everyone is effective to a greater extent @taskmaster4450. Robbers will always be scared of getting out numbered during a robbery. I agree all states should adopt this to prevent the robbers from selecting out easy targets.
By Constitutional law we still have the right to bear arms. If the person is legally allowed to carry, then I don't see a problem with it. The reason we allow police officers to pack is because they have a license, so a civilian with license should have the same consideration. This would only make the public safer and not otherwise. It shouldn't even be complicated or controversial, except I guess there are people out there who don't want to give up on banning guns in general. Even if you want guns to be "banned" or restricted or whatever, I wish more people could admit that special "gun free" carveouts inside a general population that does have guns is the worst of everything and basically just begging for people to be in situations such as Las Vegas or Florida. If you stop forcing people to be unarmed, you take away the honeypot target in the first place, and cops can be a little less sensitive now that they know the public isn't a sitting duck any time they miss a clue or are a second late. As tho it was so foolish that anyone could have gotten the idea that they want to ban them. Let’s follow the step of town of Georgia and when it comes to fake news CNN?
Just look below.
These statistics have really surprised me. The low crime rate in Georgia is impressive. This has got me to consider my previous argument of supporting gun laws. This is clear proof of how arming every household is effective. Nikolas Cruz could have been stopped from continuously harming the children that he shot at if a few school teachers had been armed at the moment. A number of citizens with no violent past need to be armed to rescue any victims of a shooting that might occur around them.
And at the moment when unemployment is at 4.1% in USA.. It's clear minors won't need to rob anyone for money to earn a living.. It's the few vicious criminals that look for ransoms that are now a huge threat and having trained citizens that can out number these robbers will deter a robbery from going further into a shooting that will claim lives.
Keep in mind, unemployment statistics are not accurate. They do not include any of the people who have never found a job once they became unemployed. The numbers are much higher and even in homes where people have jobs, their income doesn't stretch nearly as far as it use to. Households where two to four generations of people are forced to live together have grown dramatically in the past 10 years.
and yet when a kid who has been reported to authorities dozens of times without them doing any follow up and is taking drugs that say on the ads "may CAUSE suicidal thoughts or actions" CNN concludes that the problem is lack of gun laws.
Truly, in matters like this we cannot say for sure if this can be attributed to the gun possession law or not. It's difficult to clearly make an informed conclusion out of a case like this but I think this is worth taking a closer look at. Investigators should take a closer look at how gun possession and low crime rate are related in the city. Likely look at the crime rate years back before this law was passed.
It’s amazing how even the most minuscule of surveys can attract mean and argumentative people. Everyone has an opinion it doesn’t have to be identical to yours without smart remarks or name calling in Georgia . Definitely wouldn’t want to be your city. An area full of mean spirited people can be just as toxic as a crime filled one.
That is an odd strategy... It would be interesting to see if this same strategy could apply to bigger populations. 33k people is a very small town. I would definitely support trying this else where, I see how it could decrease crime.
I would not like the law where it forces all citizens to arm themselves but I think in this town, having more gun carrier did help reduce the crime rate...imo
Criminals only with guns there is crime. everyone with guns keep criminals in check.
kennesaw does not enforce this issue. they will not arrest or fine you if you just really don't want a gun in the house. there was some other city in georgia that did something similar to kennesaw but huffpo got orgasmic reporting on the law being rendered moot by a judge. i don't know the particulars of that case.
kennesaw is also the location of one of the largest online ammo stores.
I think we can´t give 100% merit to this law, but it makes a lot of sense that the crime was reduced, because of you spread the word that every citizen has a gun, it get harder for anyone to become a burglar with the threat of facing a gun.
This is an example that might help the US find a solution to the gun´s owners problem, lately very discussed.
I've been trying to get people to listen to me on this subject for years. I can remember when Kennesaw passed the law and how dramatically crime dropped in the city. I live on the other side of Atlanta from Kennesaw and in my area, everyone knows that almost everyone has guns. We have very little crime while the two closest cities are no safe to go into at night.
They don't actually enforce the law in Kennesaw but just knowing that the chances are very high, someone is going to have a gun nearby, is enough to prevent most would be criminals from choosing to commit crimes there.
