The weather in North Bengal, Bangladesh has always been varied, but recently it has become more unpredictable. A few days ago, everyone was basking in the heat of the sun, suddenly a stormy rain changed everything. In a moment the cold fell so that it seemed that winter had arrived! People immediately took out warm clothes—mufflers, jackets, hoodies—all returned from the closet. But how long does this cold last? The next day it felt hot again in the afternoon sun. And the cold air again at night!
This rapidly changing weather not only affects nature but also has a major impact on our daily lives. Sweating heat during the day, shivering with cold at night—the body is easily exhausted by such contrasts. Someone might be going out in the morning wearing a heavy sweater, only to be forced to take it off and stuff it in their bag by noon. Such a change weakens our body's immune system, causing problems like colds, fevers, and even viral flu.
It is currently running the holy month of Ramadan, the Islamic Ramadan. This unusual weather is creating more challenges for the fasting people. Although there is some relief due to the coolness in the morning, it is very hot in the afternoon, which further weakens the body. Due to dehydration, many suffer from headaches, fatigue or weakness. Especially for those who work outside, it is becoming more difficult.
However, some habits need to be developed to cope with this type of weather. I personally try to have a warm outfit with me when I go out in the morning, because I never know when it's going to get cold! Diet is also important to watch—it's best to drink more hot drinks, drink plenty of water, and avoid cold or unhealthy foods. Apart from this, many keep the doors and windows closed for fear of cold, but it is also necessary to ensure adequate ventilation, so that the indoor climate does not become heavy.
This uncertainty of weather is not only limited to one region, but the world is witnessing massive changes in climate. We may not be able to solve it completely, but we can keep ourselves healthy through small awareness and habits.
