Someone posted this lovely little article on facebook and I found it full of great info except for the one glaring cognitive dissonance of firmly believing in germ theory and contagion. I could never share it as is so decided to dissect it myself. I’ll leave the writing as it was and add my own remarks in [brackets]…….

Thank you, it's very rare to read something like that. Finally something with common sense! I really like the way you dispel the myths that modern people cling to. It's almost superstition, I would say, what we supposedly educated people make of our own biology. Stuffed to the brim with technocratic-religious ideas.
I have never considered the virus theory as a causal agent of disease, whether it can be proven or not. For me, the environment and the conditions in which people live have always been among the causes of illness, malaise and distress.
The disgust that modern humans feel towards animals, their excreta and their bodies, results from the fact that we have forgotten to share the habitat with animals and to experience ourselves as embedded in the cycle of birth and death. Man has now transferred this disgust to his own body, towards all its excretions, mucus and blood, in a kind of strange self-hatred towards himself that forbids smelling like a human being, feeling like a human being and behaving like a human being.
The crisis we are in is a deep and spiritual crisis of meaning, a spiritual lack, this hunger that has not become less but more for I don't know how long.
If I find the time, I would like to translate the text plus your intelligent comments into German, if that's all right.

Thankyou for your amazing input and yes you can certainly translate it into German, I 'd love to see your translation too as I was at one time fluent in German. I've forgotten a lot of it sadly but like to try and keep it up.

Do you think this was commonplace or a description of the very worst conditions that ever existed in the worst London slums?
I think it was any large city/town or industrial area. Anywhere where people were crammed tightly together.
I guess the 16 average age was due to so many babies dying. I remember hearing that the average lifespan of people who survived past 5 was mid thirties
It's virtually impossible to find accurate statistics from back then or to acertain what people died of, all we can do is, like detectives, work on what we do know and use common sense reasoning. Don't forget apart from the pollution and over-crowding there was also the orthodox quacks handing out poisons as medicines and even mandatory vaccine campaigns going on.
