RE: Xenoestrogens #5: Cumulative endocrine effects.

OK.... all that being said....and agreeing with the point that xenoestrogens should be minimized. Hopping on board with the idea that there are cumulative effects of xenoestrogens. How do we minimize xenoestrogens? Here is my list.... please correct, add or dispute.

  1. favor glass or stainless steel - aka eliminating plastic food storage.
  2. NEVER microwave plastics - change food to ceramic or glass containers or preferably just use the stove to re-heat.
  3. Exclude soy, soybean oil, soy - anything - from the diet
  4. Buy Organic - remove pesticides.

What am I missing? How do we make those little changes that make all the difference in the world?

I don't think I have to tell you.... but I'm a big fan! Let's make the world healthy again!!

  1. yes
  2. That largely depends on which plastics you microwave. Heating plastic which is leaking BPA is not a good idea, while there are plastics that do not contain xenoestrogens, which are fine in that regard. I think here the point is rather to educate people and also to ban the wrong plastics from being used as food contact materials.
  3. Soy is rather tricky, it has been part of the Asian diet for centuries, without much harm. However, we can't exclude that in combination with the other - "modern" - estrogens, it's a problem. I am not a fan of soy milk or soy infant formula, but I guess the occasional tofu won't kill anyone.
  4. Yes and no. Without pesticides, it's next to impossible to feed 8 Billion people. Also, if you completely remove them, other pests like molds will become much more common again, and they are for sure not less toxic. Here, the solution would be to ban pesticides that act on our endocrine system, which is something many of them - but for sure not all of them - do. But this has to come from authorities, there's little to nothing a consumer can do.

And P.S.: Thanks for the nice comment!
