Hi everyone!
These days have been very important for the Czech people as there are two public holidays every 5th and 6th of July.
Yesterday, we celebrated the St. Cyril and Methodius Day that I told you more about in THIS POST and today is another significant day and a public holiday too as 6th of July is when we commemorate the tragic death of Jan Hus, a renowned Czech theologian, priest, philosopher and rector of the Charles University whose importance is often compared to that of John Wycliffe.

In the early 15th century, Jan Hus became the leader of the Protestants who were against the Roman Catholic Church. He had many famous speeches and sermons against the Catholics, often attacking the corruption that the Catholic Church was struggling with.
Hus was called upon to recant his accusations and other statements against the Catholics but he refused to do so and he was eventually executed. Jan Hus was burned at the stake (officially for heresy) in the city of Constance in today´s Germany on July 6, 1415.

Hus´ death started massive protests and demonstrations by his followers known as the Hussites and it eventually resulted in the so called Hussite Wars in which the Hussite army fought against crusaders sent against them by the Pope himself.

In those times many abuses were committed, shielding themselves in the defense of the faith, they are stories worthy of being known by the world.
